Pocket shelves?

There has been a lot of talk lately about corner pocket shelves, some deep and some shallow allowing for a roughly hit ball to still go in along the rail. We never thought too much about this in the old days but what are considered to be ‘deep’ and what are considered to be shallow or more forgiving? I guess you would have to put a ruler across the points of the corner pocket and measure back from middle of the ruler line. Just wondering,,,

The TDF chart has 1.5-1.75 as being 'standard'. I think a stock GC is around 1.5. What is yours?

IMO: The Diamond shelf is “deep”. GC shelf is “standard”. Valley shelf is “shallow”.

It depends on the pocket size. Greg explains it pretty well imo. The tighter the pocket the deeper the shelf needs to be so the same amount of ball is visible. Valley pockets are big-n-shallow to make bar/club owners money.

When new-from-B'wick with a pocket size of 4.75-5" that is probably the standard depth. I'll measure a few GC4's at the 'hall later.

Yup. I'm sure the shelf shrunk a bit from stock when the pockets were tightened to 4.125". That being said, plenty of balls still hang up if they aren't hit right.
