pocket size

I prefer 4.25" pockets. Getting comfortable with 4.25" pockets helped me with my accuracy when playing at my local poolhall.

4" pockets can be very frustrating, but I love them!!!

Here's my GCI with Ernesto Dominguez' torture devices.....

Daaaaooommm, Russ. I've seen bigger holes on a 6X12! Seriously, the mouth appears noticeably smaller than the bucket itself. Good thing you had a top mechanic to properly angle those facings.

No wonder you want me in your ring game. :grin-square:

Thanks --

I understand wanting tight pockets in general, and not wanting to play one pocket on bucket pockets. I was just curious as to why someone might want 4.5" for straight pool or 9-ball, but 4.25" for one hole.

I'm still debating 4.25 vs. 4.5...

One pocket is a player's game, so most serious players want to play it on a tight table.

Also, a lot of the shots that come up in one pocket are right around the corner pockets. You are trying to shoot balls out of the pockets in defense a lot of times, and you are shooting short easy shots towards your own pocket a lot of times. You want tight pockets so that your opponent can't make easy shots. And you want tight pockets so that you can play defense without accidentally pocketing a ball in your opponents pocket.

It takes a serious player with years of knowledge and understanding to be a great one pocket player. So most one pocket players consider themselves good, or they are trying to become good. Tighter pockets will favor the better player in one pocket, so it stands to reason that most one pocket players will prefer tighter than average pockets.

If I say the word pocket one more time please shoot me!

Those are just a few reasons that come to mind.

if u go to the bca website it will give u the specs of the tables acceptable for pro play. it gives ever spec u will need. including what angles are acceptable to cut the pockets at. go with the minimum and youll be ready for anything u come across except some shimmed up game killer.

there is a thing by realkingcobra i think that talks about the right way to tighten pockets with subrail extentions. a real pro needs to do this as well as know what angles to cut the pockets at when u get it done. its not worth trying to do yourself. u may waste your money and be dissapointed.

Alright thanks for all the help 4.5 and 5 it is. the only problem is that the shelf is very shallow its a cheap table 8ft AMF something but for a practice table in a barn it will work fine.

ill probably get another table next year hopefully a 9 FT seems to be the direction im moving in i traded a 7" Olhausen Plaza with huge buckets and the slowest cloth in creation for this AMF.
