Pocket Size

I have a Global bar box that I'll be having some work done in August (my league play has a dark month during August). I'll be shipping my rails to Ridgeback Rails for new rails. My table mechanic will install new Simonis 860 Tournament Blue when I get the rails back. The present corner pocket size is 4.5" and side pockets are 5". My table mechanic suggests 4.25" and 4.75" for the new sizes which I'll probably do. The other consideration is 4" and 4.5". My league play is on 9 foot tables and I think reducing the pocket size on my bar box will help improve my potting ability. I've seen improvement in my game since I obtained the bar box about 9 months ago. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

IMO 4" corners are too tight...I have a set of Ridgebacks for my Valley. They are fine for practice and some drills but not too enjoyable to play the ghost on for me. I would go with the 4 1/4" that the table mechanic said to go with if it was my table. Johnnyt

PS:My side pockets are close to 4" also on the 4" corner rails.

Mark Gregory (perfectpocketz) put new Artimis cushions and extended the subrails on my 9' Centennial. The corners are 4 1/8" and the sides are 4 1/2". I was apprehensive about it, but they play right. I'm absolutely pleased and believe that I own the best playing table on the planet. The pockets get larger in a hurry (with regular practice). But...... there is more to how a pocket plays than just the opening at the mouth. I'm leary about making any direct correlation of pocket playability between our tables. If Mark or one of the other superior mechs don't respond here, I would call them.

Globals with ridgebacks

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like 4.25" is the way to go.

Kerry just built us 4 sets of Ridgebacks for our bar tables- Globals believe it or not. We then covered them with 860hr tournament blue and they look and play great. We had them made to 4 5/8, which is what our older Diamonds are. They play easy, partly because of the new cloth, but mostly because the slate shelves are cut generously toward the table, which yours maybe as well. The Ridgebacks are way better than the originals were on these tables, which are Global 'Oldtimers'. Here's what they look like.
