What's easier to do, enlarge or tighten pockets.

Also, I want to enlarge 4-1/2" pockets to 4-3/4". The facing seems to be slightly thicker than 1/8th inch, so is it possible to just remove the facing or replace with very thin ones. If so, how thin do they come?"

Thanks in advance.

What is the correct way to measure pocket opening as they are not square to one another

The correct way is from point to point in the mouth of the pocket, but even still, with the same openings the pockets can vary depending on the miter cut of the pocket.

Playing around with the pockets depends largely on the manufacture/model of the table. On some tables, it's just not worth the time or effort to make changes, so it's helpful when you include what kind of table you're referring to.

Just replacing the facings with thinner facings brings about other problems later down the road, like the cloth cutting through at the facings because thinner facings do nothing to protect the stencial cutting of the cloth in the corner pockets. But, opening up the pockets is not hard to do if a person has the right tooling.
