Polishing white phenolic

Cleaning/polishing white phenolic is making me crazy. I'm using 3M sand paper, trying to step through grades from 320, 400, 600,1200, 1500. The weave in the phenolic holds particles and its very hard to make it shine like juma. Id appreciate any tips on how to polish the stuff. There's got to be a better way.

Thanks

I usually coat it with a few thin coats of CA, then sand and buff the CA.

I certainly believe you are correct. If you sand the material down, the finer the paper the more the weave will show. You just need to fill the weave with super glue, sand lightly and then polish.

Well....Cue Components calls is linen based white phenolic....

So...sounds like I need to rough sand again to clear out the existing embedded stuff, then coat with CA, then polish.

In my stack of sand paper I think I had a few pieces of carbide sanding papers (maybe from harbor freight, that is really cheap crap) and that was the source of the black streaking in the weave.

Thanks for the tips...I will give it a shot.

Well there you have it, problem solved. If Joe said it, it must be true.
Phenolic resin is amber in color.
Melamine is white and is what most of the white linen-based mtrls are made from.

Harbor freight is a great place...but...ditch the sandpaper...to call it crap is an understatement, IMO.
