How do you clean/polish your pool balls for home use?

Just curious, do you ever go play in a bar/poolroom? Reason i ask is you might want to let the balls get a little more dirty from time-to-time. Get used to 'real world' conditions. If you go play in a tourn. somewhere i guarantee you won't see conditions like what one may have at home. FIFTEEN sets of balls?? Really. Wow.
Good point. I play in pristine tournament conditions at home. Clean table, good cloth, clean like new balls. I play almost exclusively among a group of friends who all have home tables and we get together when we can. When I play on public tables it is definitely different, but I honestly play a little better after a little warm up. Dirty balls play with a little more forgiveness and less throw than a clean new or like new set.

A little Aramith polish and a towel works great, for me. And with the Duramith balls, scuff marks are virtually non-existent.

Home made bucket polisher. Works great and price is right. And I really don't need to clean them that often.

I can get them cleaned for free at the billiard store... But saves me a trip and I can do it whenever I want.

Mines kinda like a bucket/car buffer but I built a wood box and drilled a few holes lined with micro fiber. Eventually I'll build a new top to squeeze in atleast 8 balls at once

Any UK folk who've attempted making their own ball polishers or care to share their methods for ball cleaning?

It has been my observation that clean freshly polished balls throw far less than dirty ball which throw more. Same with spin transfer and balls hit to rail with spin, more affect with dirty balls and less affect with polished balls.

Are balls different in the uk? Same methods listed here should work anywhere.

I imagine there might be those who might have their own method for Snooker or English 8 Ball sets. Also, I think making your own ball polisher over here isn't as cheap. ;)

Less friction with clean balls
Honestly, this depends on how they are cleaned. The alcohol / Aramith mixture leaves the balls more "squeaky clean" than Aramith alone and they actually are very clean, but throw quite a bit more. Dr. Dave did a really good video on throw impact of various cleaning methods. His video showed that balls cleaned with just alcohol throw A LOT. The Alcohol / Aramith spray mixture in my machine produces a throw about equal to that of a set new out of the box. Aramith cleaned balls clearly throw less, and balls cleaned with silicone compounds almost don't throw at all, but that changes as the cleaner residue wears off the balls in his video. The Alcohol / Aramith mixture was not part of his test though.
