Well.... in comparison to purses and shoes - pool cases are a bargain at ANY price. I have in my possession a blue Prada bag that cost about $5 short of $2000. I was in the Louis Vuitton store on 5th Avenue a few weeks ago and if you can get out of there without spending $1000 then you are a magician and you probably only got a small wallet.

Really, the work that goes into most custom cases is as much or more than the work that goes into making a purse or a pair of shoes. Yet, on average the shoes and purses and leather bags are WAY higher in price and most of them are production bags even with the high price.

So enjoy it because due to competition you, the consumer, have a huge amount of choice with more than 60 active case makers and more than 100 brands of cases on the market at prices that are priced well below what other leather and vinyl goods are at.

That's a fact John. I see man bags that are plain, no tooling in the 750 price range. Peter Main belts are a couple thousand. Most tooled belts out there done by most any maker are 350 and up. Travis Stillson tooled brief cases are around 2500 and his tooled wallets are 350. Custom pool cue cases are a bargain compared to just about any other well made leather goods out there.

Whitten customs

My everyday case is a 3x6 Whitten that I ordered and designed with Joe about a year ago. It took him about 5 months to complete. Paid $1,400 for that one. I also own the first 2x4 on his custom page. It is the black and white "Stingray". That one is $800. Considering ordering another custom to match a Monster Scruggs I own, but Joe says he is backed up until December.

cue case

500.00 or more cue case.
i have been thinking of getting a custom made grim reaper case kinda like a spartan case i seen on here. in a 3x5 .
I am suprized that 1/3 of everyone that their main case is 500.00 an up.

Why are you surprised? You're inviting comments from a pool enthusiast website. We have active debates on the merits of $25 chalk here, so you're going to get a wide range of opinions and perspectives.

FWIW, others have pointed out high quality leather workmanship of some pool cases are a bargain in comparison with other finished leather products because of the size and strength of our market.

The gentleman with the LV cases probably made a shrewd decision when you compare the price in relative to the other products from that maker's line. Also, LV will not make a copy of that case design for another customer. So that adds to the exclusivity of his cases without the need of monogramming.

Very funny. She did see the guy at Amsterdam with the Louis Vuitton case..........................

I told her she already has something better. ME, the designated cue carrier. That's why I carry a 4x8 case.

I am kind of surprised at the poll results so far.

You are right. I should not be surprised given this is an enthusiast board. I most likely will be changing my vote within a year.

I was expecting the $201 to $500 range to be the leader. A high level production case like an Instroke.

It's not just the spending of $500, it's the availability. Seyberts, Ozone Billiards, Billiard Warehouse, Pool Dawg. Not too many cases cost more than $500 on their sites. Is it safe to assume the people voting > $500 have a custom case ?

Another question is, if the case cost more than $500, what's inside ? Maybe I should do a follow up poll. At each case price level above, what is the total value of the cues inside ?
