Pool and Race

SOME folks here maintain pool is in a transition period -- from pool rooms to tournaments -- and that pool is infinitely better off for the change as it is being freed from all of the negative elements, gambling, etc., which have attended it for years. I don't get around a lot anymore, but the tournaments I attended did not have many blacks playing. I can now see that AZB is not the place to suss anything like this out. What I need to do is find a group of black players and see what they say.
Some folks here don’t know their ass from their elbow but that comes with the internet. I for one don’t consider gambling to be a negative thing, most that do think it is wouldn’t bet water is wet anyway so their opinion is a little more than biased. MR is pool now, for better or worse, and I don’t think they perceive gambling as negative as they have numerous sports book sponsors for their snooker events as well as taking the US Open out of Virginia and moving it into a casino they’re in bed with to bring the event there. Remember that for every hardened player and gambler on this site that there are 10 social league bangers that play this game as a simple form of recreation. This is what leads to a lot of the commentary you allude to. Not to say that there’s anything wrong with those types of players, after all they’re the ones buying all the gadgetry the industry cranks out and it feeds the industry but be mindful that their narrow field of focus on the “state of the game” is limited to the little corner of APA and other league bar pool that they frequent.

If they are old and black, “play sum” one pocket with them. Let us know how you make out;)

I 💯 agree with your assessment. The comment about gadgetry is so spot on… the ten to one majority is what drives the industry within the industry of jump cues. Also I’ve always said that any amount of gambling in a poolroom will never match the gambling that goes on in any clubhouse on the greens across the country and golf never has those negative connotations associated with the game.
