Pool, as compared to others...

Hmmmmmm...

What similarities do pool, and pool players, share with other sports/games?

okay, I'll compare pool to darts if no-one else has already. IN Both games when the bar-maid with the really big kaknockers goes by you'll be libel to either miscue, or as in darts stick someone's back. :embarrassed2:

Just hope they feel the same way toward her that U do .

Pool is like bowling! If one equated a break and run to rolling a 300 game, then bowling would be as boring to watch on TV as 9-ball is.

In pool, opponents both use the same main ball (Q ball). Pool loosely shares this factor with Tennis, Baseball, and Football and Ice Hockey, if you stretch the definition of ball. Golf (since the elimination of the Stymie shot) and Bowling are pure performance sports where you play against the course or the lane. Pool allows a defensive shot to be played at almost any time.

As for the game, none. You can not compare one type of sport to another. You can compare the different styles that can be found within a certain sport to each other.

As for players, there is one thing that everyone competitive person has in common, to do their best to win. This takes the same effort for everyone regardless of the sport.

It does pool a disservice not to point out the uniqueness of this sport and to keep trying to compare it to other things, or to keep bringing up ways things are done in other sports as the way to do things in pool.

The use of the CB is nothing like the use of any other ball in other ball sports. No other sports requires you to place the ball for your next shot or place the ball where your opponent has no shot. And repeat.

This is the simple goal of pool, but the execution to do so consistently is not so simple.

FWIW.

Noones knocking pool here...

I don't think anyone on this thread is knocking pool by comparing it to other sports, as you seem to infer.
Having done both with some success, I can say that there are certainly some similarities:
Both sports require repetitive motions.
You can commit a foul in both sports.
Both sports require adjustments for various playing conditions.
Both use a modified pendulum swing.
and the most fascinating to me...
To master either sport requires a full understanding of how a sphere skids, spins and rolls on a flat surface.

Chess players and boxers have similar outlooks to pool players.
Pool is a war game....anyone who thinks they're just playing the table
just doesn't understand the situation.

you to the top

Pool is a lot like soccer. A lot of flopping and crying, but with a lot less more fans.
