Pool Ball Collecting.

Those century-old Brunswick agate balls sure are a treasure to behold. Something else in person!

I sure wish they were made in 2.25” because I haven’t been able to find any.

Thanks for sharing them, Frankenstroke

I completely agree. I've been looking for a set of these for a long time because the colors are so beautiful. We hosted Thanksgiving and everyone insisted on playing the 'old clays'. I took some closeups to show how interesting the colors are.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the thread, Chi-Rack.

Your beautiful set of agate balls is a little before my personal sphere of knowledge, sir.

I’m sure one of the vintage experts will be able to answer your questions soon.

Thank you for sharing the photographs!

Thank you, Rubik's Cube. Hat's off for starting this thread. Your posts are always informative, and I've learned a lot reading from the beginning. I'm glad you liked the photos, I wasn't sure if they would post well after resizing.

I can't find much on these balls and I'm grateful K2K posted his pictures since that's about all I could find.

Thanks!

Hello. I'm new to the site. This is a very informative forum and the genuine friendships and generosity between contributors is wonderful. The reason I'm here is that I recently got a set of 2 1/16" clay agate balls. Pictured below.

I can't find any history of these. View attachment 794101K2K alludes to turn of the century but exactly when and what gives them their unique colors? Any information or even book recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

This is how they were listed in “Pool and Billiard Collectibles” a reference book written by Connie and Mark Stellinga. It should be noted the book was published about 20 + years ago. They date back to 1890s.Beautiful set!

Thanks LBF. It's amazing to me that they're that old. That must be why you don't see them very often. I see the 1 7/8" size occasionally but not the larger.

Hello, everyone.

Here’s wishing all my fellow pool ball collectors the merriest Christmas and a peaceful, healthy 2025.

Sincere thanks for your contributions to our thread this year. They were all very much appreciated indeed.

I’ll sign off with a photograph of my latest acquisition… an all solids set by the Composition Billiard Ball Supply Company of London.

I picked this up at a local Antique shop this past weekend. They were asking $75 and they took $50 for it.
Nice addition to my autographed cue balls & old clay ball collection. Not 100% sure what it is made of but it was advertised as the good stuff.

Ok so then it's the amount of hair line cracks or fractures also that gives it away then also ?
I've just never seen a ivory cue ball that I'm aware of so I'm wanting to learn more about them is all .

Just purchased this....Some of the circles are different sizes...The 9? is solid green... stripes do not go all around the balls. Thirty-five US, supposed to be NOS...Any clues?
