Another set that's not too expensive. I like the look with the black around the numbers. 4.2 gr. Difference, would be 3gr if the 8 ball wasn't so off.

I have 6 sets of Dynospheres and not one of them is within 1.5 grams as stated on the box.
Prime lithium. 2.1 gr
Cobalt elemental. 2.6 gr
Vanadium. 1.8 gr
Rhodium. 1.7 gr
Tungsten. 2.7 gr
Platinum. 1.9 gr
All within reason in my book, just saying they shouldn't make that claim!!
Do you think they'll send me some new sets if I complain?

Yeah you got a couple tight sets.
Oddly enough, My boxes don't have the 1.5g spec tolerance on them. That must be something new.

Yeah I just looked at my boxes, my platinums are copyright 2019 and don't have it on it. All the other boxes are copyright 2024 and have it on it.

I didn't buy them to play, my weights are taken on a triple beam scientific scale.
I have a question about identifying balls. How does one know, if balls have higher quality? Is this even doable? At least for an amateur or someone who has no bigger knowledge of the world of billiard balls…
I got this set and the spare balls second hand:
I am pretty certain, they are just some cheap Chinese balls. At least to 95%. But not fully, and that’s the point of my question. How do you decide if something is worth keeping, if space is not that big of an issue? As far as I am concerned, the single balls might not be. They are not even a complete set. But I have none looking like the other set. Is it worth keeping them, just for the sake of being different? Or just selling them of for 10,- second hand again?
And they look way cleaner than they really are, even though I used ball restorer and ball cleaner from Aramith. Is it even possible, to make old balls look nicer again, or is it a discoloration of the balls itself already? I am not speaking of completely white, but they still look dirty after cleaning.

Poly Resin balls will always retain that dull, scratched finish. Does not matter how many times you clean them, either by hand or run them through a ball polisher, they will never shine again. The resin they are made from is not like phenolic.
In fact, I have a set of tournament used Saratoga balls that are poly-resin, and they were run through a Diamond ball polisher before being sent to me. When compared to the before and after photos, the polisher/cleaner did more damage to the surface and luster of the set than any actual polishing.
Poly-resin balls are meant to be played hard, seldom cleaned, and then when their playability is gone, you throw them from your car at high speeds at aggressive drivers...
Some folks seem to possess supernatural restoration and cleaning skills.

To get used Poly-Resin to shine, there would have to be human sacrifice involved.
In my five years of playing around with it, I can get 70-year-old Hyatts to look brand new, but some random Chinese import ball with just a couple of months of play never gets its mojo back...
Is anyone aware of an earlier ‘black’ set than Raschig’s 1983 Four Players?

I purchased them from the family of a former Raschig employee in 2018. The sixteen balls are 2 and 1/4 inch… four stripes of yellow, red, blue and green. The small ball images on the booklet cover are raised decals.
Alas, I’ve never seen another set, dear chap, and am unable to tell you much else about it. Admittedly, I paid up a bit for these balls but have never regretted it.

Well I would say that's a good score Sir If you can't find another like it. It's obviously the real thing with its box and all. It's neat and it'll be interesting to see if anybody else knows anything about them.
