What do you all think about the pool commentating of Ewa and Mitch Lawrence on ESPN?

I think their commentary is f#cking awful, and ESPN needs to can them and go with Allen Hopkins and 1 other commentator.

...i dunno.... if its the WPBA definitely Ewa......but not Mitch

but then again, Allen is kinda boring.........and Jeanette Lee draws penises on the teleprompter...(pm me for the vid....no joke)....

Personally I like the Mosconi Cup announce team....

Grady, Billy, and Danny 4-life!

Even the worst accu-stats announcer (most are great) is better than the best ESPN announcer. Long live Diliberto and Incardona.

I know Incardona and Grady Mathews and some of the other really good pool commentators post here, and I'd be very very interested in what they have to say about the quality of ESPN pool commentary.

ditto alan /danny/nick....mitch.L is probably a nice guy ,but drives me nuts with the nick/name stuff....striking vicking, dutchess of DOOM, irish invader, quick fire...well you get the point....it wears me out......i have to take a nap..

I would love to have Strickland commentating these pool matches....now that would bring the viewers in for sure!

He does seems like a really nice guy, but I think he uses this excessive nicknaming to make up for his complete lack of pool knowledge.

He should annouce all of the WPBA matches. That would be awesome listening to him ranting to the world about how inferior the womens' games are compared to the men.

I think they are ok, bugs me about the nicknames too (he's probably told to do that though, I hope) and the big deal they made about pronouncing Thorsten's name differently in past telecasts. Bugs me too that quite often Mitch refers to Ewa like he doesn't even know her - what's the big fricking deal to say "I'm joined in the booth by my wife Ewa, winner of blah blah blah etc.". Instead he introduces her like he never met her before - weird. It might be more annoying if he referred to her too much as his wife as well, so maybe this is best...

I thought the telecast earlier this year with Mitch and Mark Wilson was good, Mark did a great job describing shots and some technical points about why players were doing certain things or why they missed etc.

I don't care for Alan that much either, although he's better than the others. I still remember that guy back in the mid - late 80's, covered the Resorts tourneys (Kim somebody?), some pretty boy wanna be who clearly never played pool before, so at least it's gotten somewhat better... But give me Accustat's commentators anyday...

A week or two ago, anyone see the old 1995 tourney on ESPN Classic, Mitch and Vicki Paski were commentating, back when Mitch had hair! Permed no less! Of course I should't really talk, my transformation since then is eerily similar... :shocked2:

Pool Commentary

I like Mark Wilson for commentary. The guy from England brings (covering Mosconi Cup) isn't bad either.

mitch and ewa are ok. i watched the upa on espn the last couple of days and the commentary on it was alot better than the woman get. they had rodney in the box one day then raj then kim davenport. It was good to mix it up and hear different guys opionion. I mean how many times do i have to hear allen hopkins say " im gonna go out on a limb here and say he runs out" hahahahah (when the player has like 3 balls left). That joke wasnt funny the first time nor every other time since then. Allen seems like a good guy but i like to see it mixed up a little.

Commentating for ESPN has to be incredibly hard. As a pool player, I'd much rather watch the Accu-Stats crews, but ESPN can't cater to only pool players or they'd loose their main audience completely. I almost wonder if a guy like Joe Rogan would be a better (certainly a more expensive) choice. He has a genuine interest in the game, pretty widespread appeal, and the curiosity to ask questions like he did in the booth during the IPT challenge match.

Either way, I like bringing in a variety of pros who've been eliminated from the competition, like they did with the UPA Championship matches. Lord knows the players could use the opportunity to make some extra cash, especially if they've been knocked out of the tournament.

That's why they need Earl. His rants would to appeal to masses of non pool players. They could bring him on as a sideline analyst like in the NBA.

Personally i don't like Dawn as a commentator at all, Ewa really has gotten better at it, Always love Allen what i never liked about it is they should have alot more of the Pros commentating. I know they use to have a guest appearance but thru one rack or two at the most.

If they were half as good and interactive as the World Poker Tour duo, it wouldn't be half bad. Typical pool problems, samo samo, plus they probably can't afford to pay for a real Talent like the PBT did, which is most likely the reason we have what we have, tho I'm surprised/tho not, the women haven't got someone on the mike that can sizzle with the dialogue. If I ever watch womens pool, and pretty much pool of any type on TV I push MUTE.

I think Ewa and Mitch are the best on ESPN, by far. Jeanette and Dawn are awful and most of the men have no clue when it comes to grammar or what the people watching even understand about the game. The only man who can speak is Mark Wilson, but he sounds like he just learned a bunch of big words, and feels he needs to use them all in one day.
