Sharp objects may be allowed onboard american flights, beginning tomorrow. Were any of the 9-11 hijackers carrying pool cues? Who is the freakin' genius that thought pool cues were a hazard? We are a minority, damn it! I thought, minority rules, was the modern, american way. We need to rise up and let our voices be heard. HELL NO, WE WON'T STOW! ;)

The feds worry about a small pen-knife, nail-clipers, and many more things that could cause harm or even death.

They never SAY A WORD ABOUT A BALL POINT pin, or your finger. Either could kill you faster than a pen-knife, or nail-clipers. Run your pen, or finger knuckle deep in a guys eye, and he will drop like a turd in a well.

I flew quit a bit and they never let me bring a cue on board after 911. I always thought that the on-board fire extinguisher would be a bigger threat.

Will someone please inform an ignorant fool:

Why is it safe for me to carry my fingernail clippers on board an aircraft now, when it hasn't been the past four years?

My sources tell me that there are finally two air marshalls, armed with 50 cal cannons, on every flight. Chances are they would blow you away before you could eviscerate anyone with your fingernail clippers.::)

I assure u that is incorrect- they may be on all flights of a certain class and i doubt that too but they arent on these commuter runs for sure.

My point exactly! It's not safe for me to carry fingernail clippers on a plane!

I got on an international flight yesterday .. business class. Politely asked if I can carry on my cues ... she was very nice and asked around. The answer was no but she made sure my Porper Travel Case was marked with Fragile stickers and hand carried to wherever they go to get loaded.

When I arrived at my destination 17 hours later .. my bag was one of the first to be unloaded. My other bag, while marked priority, took forever. From now on, I'm marking everything fragile :D

On the otherhad, I still saw guitars and other musical instruments (looks like a trumphet case) being allowed to be carried on board ... I thought these instruments could easily be converted to "weapons" just as well

Knitting and crochet needles have never been banned. It's ridiculous that pool cues aren't allowed on. It would take a while just to get it out of the case!

I remember being told at one point when cues were allowed that I had to choose to put either my cue or my laptop in cargo. It was like Sophie's Choice!

Pool Cues on Airlines

For what its worth, the BCA is lobbying for a change to allow cues as carry on. Below is taken from the November newsletter.

:: HAVE CUE, WILL TRAVEL
The Transportation Security Administration ... is currently in the process of reviewing its list of prohibited items restricted on scheduled aircraft (pool cues among them), and you can add your voice to those who would like to hand-carry their cues when travelling by air.
Just last month, BCA Executive Director (and licensed pilot) Stephen D. Ducoff directed a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, specifically requesting a review of this policy. The BCA has since received word from both the DHS and TSA that they are conducting the review, so now is the time for you to speak up.

I think we should file a class action law suit if they don't let us carry our cues. After the change in rules takes effect, you be able to carry a pair of sissors with a 4 inch blade. I understand the need for safety, but our cues should be allowed. Best for all thru the holidays. Sam

The easy solution is to drill some holes in the shaft and tell them it's a flute:cool:

That guy would take the Shirt Off your back!

Personally I think there would be much less to worry about if the airlines were alowed to manage their own security. The government fails at every enterprise it takes on, save for increasing taxes and violence. It's raison detre.

The rules of engagement have changed since 9/11. The rule used to be the pilot would cooperate to protect the safety and well being of the passengers no matter what. It is not like that any more, they are locked in the cockpit and no one is getting control of that plane from the crew even if they were to begin killing passengers, it won't be opened. Also the whole mind set of everyone has changed. I doubt even if someone has a gun the passengers will sit quietly by and not take action much less something like a knife. Today even if a passenger starts a commotion the other passengers think nothing of getting involved and subduing them it has happened numerous times already. The best a hijacker can do today would be to blow up the plane with a bomb they may sneak onboard but all that would be lost would be the plane and those passengers but the plane could not be used as a weapon.
