As i stated in an earlier thread i have a ebony and ivory J. Pechauer coming. I love ebony and ivory cues. What do you people look for in a cue, on the looks side that is. If you had one built(money no object) what would it look like as in woods, design, wrap and kind of inlays, and who would build it for you as cue makers have there own styles and abilities.

What mine say

I just realized I have 2 cues with no points. I must like a cue as pointless as my game. :p

Cues to some people are like fashionable clothes or expensive watches. To others, like myself, they are just a necessity for playing a great game.

I don't care if a cue is made of plastic, costs $2 and looks like something the cat dragged in if it plays well.

So what's in the case Colin?

If you have a cue with a laminated tip, laminated shaft, stack leather wrap and you wear a glove shooting with it, you're probably a C player. :D
If you shoot with a $6000 Thomas Wayne, you might be a B player.
If you shoot with an ugly sneaky pete, you're probably an A player. :D
If you have an ebony with ivory points and a hundred inlays, you're definitely not a player. :p

Colin you are 100% correct on that one. I play with a Meucci pp-4, because it is pretty, I like light colored cues and not dark ones and it performs well for me.
Put one in my hands that out plays it and I switch on the spot. That cue may not work for another person. Each one needs to try out a wide variety and then go with what they know, what they feel, what works best for them.

He wants to know what kind of cue(s) you play with.
Oh...that makes perfect sense...it is 5am here in China...I am dopey.

My only 9-ball cue is a Licos. A very cheap brand but I don't mind it. I picked it up for about USD$12 a couple of weeks before travelling to Japan to play in the USD$800,000 9-ball event a couple of years ago.

For snooker and English style pool I always used a maple shaft with ebony butt with goat horn or composite ferrules. The best cue I ever had was a Dufferin. (1 stolen, 1 broken:-() I never liked the feel or hit of the expensive snooker cues which were usually ash shafts and brass ferrules.

My Licos is bearable, but not fantastic. I would like to take an ounce out of it and get a better tip. But basically, I feel my performace is mostly a measure of practice and concentration.

I was just kidding W.E.
"If you shoot with a Pamela Anderson cue, you're probably just a barbox player who can't run 3-ball on a 9 ft table." :D
Unless of course the P.A. cue is a masked sneaky pete. :)

Wow, i guess fong pang chow isn't really a world champ, neither is varner, or archer when he was with schon, or dalton with is ebony and ivory schon. Corr must not have really won all those tourny's with her ebony & ivory falcon. ok, i understand it this way, if someone has a ebony and ivory cue they are NOT a player, well then, what do real players shoot with, in terms of looks.????? i didn't really know that what the cue looked like determind how good a person is.

Waku you need to lighten up.
I posted that in jest.
Personally, I don't know anyone who shoots with an ebony with ivory points and a hundred inlays.
I know which Daulton cue you are talking about. It was the same as Johnny's Schon.
A friend of mine bought that and sold it to a collector.

Cues In General

I think most folks play with what they can afford to play with. A sneaky pete ain't gonna fool anyone if you can really play. I am 54 and a recreational player. I don't like to gamble either. I earn my cash, so can everybody else.
I have been buying, selling, and collecting cues for a long time. I have never sold one at full retail. Then again, I have only bought two out of about seventy at retail. Got to love it. I wouldn't buy a Rollex but I would drop $2,700 on a $6,000 cue in a heart beat. JMHO

Mr. Purdy sir,

I was just curious how you purchase the cues below retail? Do you just purchase everything from private sellers or do you have an "in" with some of the cue dealers/makers?

The ebony and ivory cues are beautiful, but I prefer something a little moe understated. I don`t want a flashy cue that draws a lot of attention.

I play with a Jim Buss sneaky pete that I picked up back in ninety seven, and I really liked the Bludworth sneaky pete that was on auction here a few days ago.
