Pool cues with Ivory

I've read that you don't want to do it.

Sorry, but I don't know the laws...

What are the laws and/or restrictions when shipping cues with ivory to Europe and Asia?

Most Countries have banned the importation of ivory. Enforcement falls into the hands of customs. If you are shipping ivory into a Country that has banned its importation and it is discovered at customs, it will, at the least, be confiscated.

GO TO...."www.cuemakers.org/aboutivory.php"

You better take the issue of ivory very seriously and moving a cue into or out of the U.S. is frought with risks. There are some on the Forum that will write and say I'm exaggerating about the risks.....hardly the case......but do your own research......check the website from the American Cuemakers Association (www.cuemakers.org/aboutivory.php) .....If you get caught, then you're out a cue or money or both......Get caught more than once and you could be considered as a illegal trafficker according to some ambiguiites in US Customs Regulations.....And lastly, there can also be fines if you get some hardass enforcement agent handling your offense.......Just not worth the effort or risk in my opinion but proceed as you will.....with due caution I might insert.

As an exercise, try buying some ivory right now....do some Internet searches........then look at what sellers have to post and explain, as well as the various limitations and restrictions imposed.....Check out these websites for pool cue ivory and see what they state about ivory (www.cuecomponents.com or www.elephantivorytusks.com). Dealing with ivory is a dead serious issue when it comes shipping pool cues into or out of the United States.........just my humble opinion.

Uncle Waldos Billiards, in Florida, got in big trouble, a sting operation was set up. Probation and a big fine I heard. It was an ugly thing. They had great cues for sale also. Nice guys to deal with. Good luck.

How does the ban on elephant ivory, both African and Asian species affect those of us, and there are many, as far as owning, wishing to sell, collecting,
purchasing new custom cues ? Do cuemakers still use it in new cue orders?

Check the "Sticky" note near the top of the For Sale thread here. "The Final Rule: Ivory". It has all the information you need.

It is worth more but not within all 50 states since some states have
enacted ivory bans so both the buyer and seller are obviously at risk.

I can tell you first hand, it's no joke. Very serious stuff whether it's leaving this Country or coming in. Years ago, I was the Neutral on a deal from over seas and here that wasn't suppose to have Ivory.
It did and got flagged.
When F&W called. I said,
I didn't know. Keep the cue.
They said, Doesn't matter, it's addressed to you and your getting fined. The two guys paid the fine and they sent me the cue.
F&W are a lot more serious now. They can turn your life upside down.
