pool fix

as most of you probably know, i sold my table in anticipation of a move to florida but circumstances dictated a delay. so to get my pool fix, i strapped my cue to my harley and rode to a local bar where they have six oversize 8' tables. i gave the man my license and he gave me a set of balls. i got to the table and realized i had no chalk. i went back to the bar and he handed me a piece of Sportcraft chalk. this is the same slippery shit that they have at walmart. i wasn't happy but thought i'd try it. i scuffed my tip well, chalked up and tried a basic draw shot. immediately i felt the cue slip under the ball. that was the extent of my pool fix. i gave the bar tender back the balls and left. he understood NOT the nature of my discontent.

has anyone else had any experience with sportcraft chalk? when i first tried it i thought; "how bad can it be, it's chalk right?"

If I'm really craving a fix I'll play anyway and just load up triple the amount of usual chalk for shots that need it. But it sucks to have to put extra work into chalking. It'd be nice to think they invest in decent chalk based on you walking out of there, but probably they don't care. Sometimes they have multiple brands that have piled up over the years, people leave their personal chalk and so on. I'd have asked if they had any master behind the bar somewhere.

I have indeed used el cheapo sportcraft and it's that bad. I don't even see a way to buy the stuff online. But whatever they're paying... you can get a dozen master for $2.75. Tell the room owner to get out his wallet and spend an extra dollar on the good stuff. One satisfied customer per month will make up the difference in price.

i did ask but they had no other kind of chalk.

i don't know what the difference is but that sportcraft chalk is worthless. in fact, it's worse than worthless. it's a liability.

That's why I always bring my own. That crap's more like clay than chalk.

yes it just might be clay. i used to carry my own chalk but haven't had an experience like this, well, never. i put some master chalk in my case....

I use that junk to practice with the 12 guage, makes a nice little poof when you hit it. Other than that, sportcraft sucks.
