Pool Hall Charges No Rent!

During times of economic stress, the need for a haven is even more urgent. If you are down and out, to hang around with friends helps. There are a lot of potential players these days, as roughly 11.6 million Americans are officially out of work. :(

The Marrietta Billiards Club is a place where people come to find some friendship and to escape temporarily as the economy continues to falter, and the pool hall charges no rent. You can hang out for hours, chat or watch television or just sit and gaze into space until the poker starts up. If you pay for lunch, you can play pool for no charge until 3 in the afternoon.

Here is an interesting read entitled "Havens Amid Crisis: Gathering Places Offer Needed respite."

I'm not sure if the current economy will be of benefit to pool rooms. I mean, if people have no money to spend, how will the pool room owners profit? In my area, they seem to be dropping like flies.

What is the climate of your pool room today? Have you noticed a change for the better or worse, or is it the same as it has always been?

Things around here are still going strong.
People are feeling the "crisis" in Germany also, but the area I live in is rather wealthy(Merceeds is HQ'd here and Porsche) so most have managed to skate through without an issue. Plus there room I play in is very upscale, so the shot answer would be .. Things havent changed.

The pool rooms in my area are diminishing. There just aren't as many as there used to be, and I sure don't see any new ones cropping up.

I do wonder, though, during the day, if the ones who offer free pool if you buy lunch are doing well. That is a great way to get people in the door. In fact, I'm going to take advantage of that myself at a local room in my area.

Around my neck of the woods, affluent people are trading in their Benz, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche autos and driving these. I have never in my life seen so many of them as I am today. They're all over the place! I just can't get used to seeing them. I guess they're easy to park! :o

Ha....
The funny thing about that picture is that company is part of Benz and they are also HQ'd here.

As a matter of fact their R&D is about a mile away from my pool room... they have this funky tower thing that looks like a giant toypackage with 8 or 10 of those Smarts stacked on top of each other.

Those things are EVERYWHERE around here.. I hate them but they do makes sense b/c the roads can get really small over here.
