The Right Mixture...
"Getting his mixture right," "The right mixture," or any other phrase that has the word "mixture" in it implies that a player is taking a drug to improve the level of his/her play.
Whether it was Lassiter and some whiskey, McCready and a case of Budweiser, or Greenleaf with a "little bit of everything," players sometimes look for artificial ways to get in the zone "on-demand."
Although there are frequent debates on AZ Billiards on whether drugs, alcohol, or a perfect "mixture" of both actually improve one's pool game or if it's all a mental thing ---- make no mistake---- when this type of player gets his/her mixture "right," you better put on your bullet proof vest and prepare for "in-coming" until the pretty lights wear-out.
Playing someone on a mixture is like a never-ending cycle. Odds are, your opponent gets his/her mixture right before the match, you take an initial bludgeoning, his/her mixture starts to wear off, you come back strong, possibly get back to even - maybe up some, your opponent disappears into the bathroom for 8-12 minutes, he/she comes out and you take a bludgeoning, his/her mixture wears off...etc,etc.
The best way to combat mixtures are to stipulate the number of bathroom/car breaks prior to a match beginning and to have the stamina to take on heavy fire-power when the chemicals are perfect with your opponent.
Mixtures are getting harder and harder to detect with players. You don't see as much whiskey drinkers or powdered noses as much as one might find pill-poppers, whether it's pain killers or even something as passive as beta-blockers.
