This is a little strange, but I am looking for recomended pool halls in Columbus, OH. Preferably north side. I'm getting tired of playing for $6 + an hour and not seeing any real players. Then, I read a post which mentioned Sportsmans down on Sullivant and I thought I wonder what else I'm missing. Sportsmans is great because they are focused on having quality tables and a good pool environment.

So, any other recomended north side pool halls?

All you need to know about pool rooms in Columbus....

Cornfed Red's on Chatterton Road USED TO BE one of the nicest rooms in the nation but the neighborhood has went to hell and the owners have let it go downhill. The equipment has old cloth and is pretty dirty. It's an okay spot until 7-8pm but it's pretty shaky after that. Very little to no action...

Players on Main Street in Whitehall is a decent "old school" room with 9' GC's, 8' Gandys, and Diamond bar tables. Cloth is old, tables play okay. Some cheap action during the day and early evening. No loud music, no BS, decent crowd...

Sportsmans on the west side (Sullivant Avenue) is a good players room. One super tough 9' Diamond (4 total 9' Diamonds) and a bunch of Diamond bar tables. A lot of cheap action ($5-100) with a wide range of player speeds from chump to champions.... Jerry the owner is really cool and a true pool player at heart. The crowd can be intimidating to some late night but Jerry is one tough SOB and they take care of business so there isn't much to sweat.... They have a good Tuesday night 9-ball tourney, if you are looking to see and play good players this is the spot for you.

The 8-Ball Sports Bar on the north side on Morse Road is the nicest room in town. Some 9' GC's and 16 or so bar tables. The 9'ers have slow cloth, are well kept, but the pockets are pretty loose. Bar tables play good. Here's their tournament page http://www.8ballsportsbar.com/tournaments.html

Cushions on Westerville Road (Northeast side) has the best payback tournments payback wise (150%) but their equipment is so bad I refuse to go there.... 8 and 9' Gandys that have been neglected for 10-12 years. The bar tables are somewhat okay but not as bad as the Gandys...

Bank Shots in Hilliard (far west side) is a decent room. I haven't been there since they first opened 6-7 years ago but I hear it's still a decent place. 9' and 7' Global tables (IIRC?). They are kind of generic tables and IMO play like it... They do have a couple of decent tourneys but I'm not sure what nights and what the formats are.

so other than sportsmans no good tables.

Cushion's have re-felted two of there 7 fts and all of their 8 & 9 footers in the last couple weeks. Tables are playing much better these days. Just a fyi!

Gold Crown

Sorry to say but the gold crown is gone. The owner of the gold crown has built a pool room in her house and moved the gold crown their. Good news bad news I guess... Got much needed new felt but lost the best table in the house!
