I am in racine wisconsin today for work, I am from chicago, I've never been to any pool halls out here, are there any cool pool halls to check out? Looking for a place that possibly has a tournament tonight or might be able to find some action. A bar in the place is not necessary

I don't know about in Racine, but a little North in South Milwaukee is Romine's. They have 50-60 tables of all sizes and always something going on.

Not sure on tournaments, but you might be able to scare up some action.

Your best bet is going to be, as mentioned, romines. If you're coming from Racine they're only another 10 minutes up hwy 43. The 27th street exit is closed for construction and so is the College avenue ramp. If you need some directions msg me on here or give me a ring (I'll send you my number on here if you want) and I'll help you out.

It's a nice hall, only $8 per hour, during the day it's $8 to play from 11-3. I'm sure there will be 1 or 2 people up there that'd be interested in a little action.

How is Romies compared to break and run billiards? I believe I am right by break and run billiards, is it worth skipping going to break and run and take the drive up to Romies?

in my humble opinion...Yes. Romines is a very nice place, with something like 50 tables including 2 billiards tables, a snooker table, and an assortment of 9ft and 8ft tables ( a few bar boxes up front). The staff is very nice and friendly as well. It's got a very simple atmosphere during the day. Night times are great, with a lot of characters coming and going. You're also talking about maybe a 15-20 minute drive to Romines, which is a drop in the bucket if you think about it. Let me know if you go. I live about a mile and a half from there.

JR's Boomers Billiards. It is on the border of REacine and Sturtevant. Not a flashy placebut friendly people.

Romines and Classic Billiards

Well I have been away from the Wisconsin Pool Scene for awhile, but I will give you my impression anyway. Some of this may be based on information that is a few years out of date.

My impression of Romine's the last few times I was in there (last year most recently) was that it was turning into a real dump. If they still have a Friday night tournament, go and play in it. That is likely the only time you will find any players in the room. And expect them to leave shortly after the tournament because the place becomes a loud date hangout on Friday and Saturday nights and even with 50+ tables generally there isn't anyone in the room that could pocket 5 balls in a row.

If you go to Romine's during the day when it is pretty dead, you could get some good practice time in, and maybe you might be lucky and run into someone who can play. Don't bet on it though. They did have the only commercial heated billiard tables in the state (2), and a 12 foot snooker table, assuming they are still there those might be a couple reasons to go.

If I was still playing and wanted to go somewhere to play I would go to Classic Billiards in Kenosha. I haven't been there for a few years, but in my opinion it is the last of a dying breed, a true pool hall. No alcohol. Maybe 7 tables. Owned by a real pool player (Claudio Parrone, Wisconsin State Champion and many time member of BCA Masters Championship Team The Pour House). Equipment in good shape. Chance to find some people who play.

Again, this info may be out of date, and you may want to call just to ensure Classic is still open, but that is my two cents worth.

I grew up in Racine just moved away a few years ago. Sorry I missed the thread, been busy at work and not checking the forum as much anymore... ;)

Curious where you ended up? My two cents in case you are there again...

Break and Run is a small pool hall in Racine, I was only there a few times it's ok. If I remember owned by an older couple that weren't overly friendly the few times I was there and equipment was so-so.

Boomers as Mark mentioned is nice in Sturtevant, ok equipment (older GC's) but I like the people there and it's cheap, a few good players too who are regulars, including this past year's Wisconsin's Masters champion who I played last time I was there.

Claudio's room in Kenosha if it's still open would be okay, I don't know that I'd personally go as far as saying it's a "true" pool hall, it's a small room owned by a good pool player. I remember there always being a lot of kids in there (no alcohol), but there were definitely some decent Kenosha players hanging out there as well and Claudio was always nice.

Romine's is still the place to play in the area, nice consistent equipment with frequently changed cloth, large selection (50+ tables) and as mentioned two nice billiard tables and a 6x12 Snooker table that's tight as hell... I traveled back to Wisconsin about a half dozen times over the last year for work and went to Romine's every time with a few stops at Boomer's as well. I don't think they've gone that far downhill, the things Ed mentioned have been that way since I've been going there 15+ years ago. The kids have taken over the business now, things have aged and don't look as "new" as they once did, poker tables and events have taken up a predominant place in the room, but they still have great in house leagues with some decent competition, a nice Friday night tournament, and a good in house Mexican restaurant. And if you are looking for a date you know what nights to go... :)
