Pool Halls/Pool Bars in SW Florida

Looking at relocating from Phoenix to SW Florida. I play 4-5 times a week, in the afternoon (God Bless Retirement), mostly 9 ball and ring games. I'm rated an 8 in AZ, so a pretty good player. I don't do too many tournaments anymore. Just don't have the patience to stand around waiting to play.

Visited Cape Coral earlier this year and really liked Diamonds, but didn't like Cape Coral. Looking at Punta Gorda, Venice, Englewood, maybe Sarasota - but not locked into anything except (hopefully) a house with a dock on a canal with gulf access.

Which of these areas has a decent pool hall with an afternoon crowd of decent pool players?

I'd live on the cape. Honestly there are some good housing prices there right now, and if you get the speedpass, you dont have to worry about the tollbooths.

Most people drive down to diamonds from those places. We have free pool 7 days a week from 11-7.

ArizonaJay...I think you hit the best room in SW FL. There's nothing decent from Naples to Bradenton, except for Diamonds in Cape Coral. Ft. Myers has the 8-Ball Lounge, and the Miscue...both pool bars with 9' tables...but Diamonds is the only nice room. Clearwater has a good room (Crooked Cue), and Tampa has Strokers. Thats about it, except further north, to Hammerheads or Capone's in Spring Hill. Good luck with your relocation...tradin' dry hot for 'wet' hot, huh?

South Ft. Myers

You might want to check out South Ft. Myers. Between McGregor and the Caloosahatchee there are several great waterfront developments starting with the Landings. Buy a house or condo there and you get a slip in the marina at no extra charge. Fees are on the high side but the location is great and gets you to Diamond in less than 25 minutes. Directly south is Town & River a large area of canal homes. Many more in the same general area.

I'll give you a tour when I get down there in November. I hope you move down here permanently. I really enjoyed playing with you last winter.

I used to work out of Salty Sams Marina (peices of 8 pirate ship) and I tell ya what....I'd rather have a private slip than foolin with the idiots around the Marina.

I wouldn't keep a boat at a place like Salty Sam's either. Shrimp boats coming in and out, tourists, other commercial vessels. . .. I had my boat in a small private marina and loved it. No pier or lift to maintain, gas readily available, not to mention the private restaurant and bar. Salty Sam's--no thanks!

Sorry for my ignorance, but I live in the desert. Can somebody explain what a "private marina" is?

Actually, we are not planning on coming back this winter - want to stay in my own home in AZ for awhile (we've been, and still are, in Ajijic, Mexico until October).

We looked at The Landings when we were there earlier this year. Not really what we are looking for. In fact, Cape Coral in general was a bit older than we would like, and not much to do socially (besides play pool at one of the best pool halls I've ever been to). The wife missed having a good selection of ethnic restaurants within about 10-12 miles.

We ARE thinking about Punta Gorda Isles (not Burnt Store Marina - didn't like that either) and maybe Sarasota. Wife wants to consider NE Florida, too, and I kinda like the Savannah area. So we are still pretty unclear WTH we are doing. :embarrassed2:

try looking on the central east coast of fla.

vero beach area in particular. you have the intra coastal waterway which has houses all along it with inlets allowing access to the atlantic ocean.

you have cunninghams in vero and ultimate billiards just 15 minutes south in ft. pierce. the owner posts on here as ultimate bill in the tournament forum. check out their website.

you have west palm beach 60 miles south, cape canaveral 60 miles north and orlando an hours drive away.
