Pool? If you can only play one game?

This is what I learned except for the stuck ball thing and didn’t know about a 147 either
The version of American snooker I have been told about involved a smaller table, numbered balls and having to touch a cushion after contact. But was otherwise much the same as actual snooker.

I saw a video of Thorsten Hohman making a 147 playing American snooker on Youtube. That's the only time I have ever seen American snooker played.

I've seen countless great players playing Snooker back home. Don't have to look much further than my dad for a 147. Seen him make two of them with my own eyes in practice. He still knocks in centuries for fun and he plays 4 times a week in winter, and 2 times in the summer.

Only version I know was the video I posted. I like the game, but only seen one table in person ever. I’ve seen more heated billiard tables in person.

Your dad had 2 147 you saw? That’s bad ass imho. Like a back to back no hitter.

No, the two I saw were years apart actually. I'm not sure anyone has ever made two 147 back to back? He's only made them on the practice table, but one of them was in a practice game against a good friend of his. The other was practicing solo (after I just quit playing for the day in a big strop as a teenager - fed up of taking balls out of the pocket for him).

He's played a lot of top players in his time (mostly in exhibition stuff when pros come through town). Before my brother was born he pursued it, before the reality of children.

This was what I assumed American snooker is.

Pretty Cool. Wish I’d seen either.

I get the mystique of one pocket, I just don’t have the desire. Banks, I could get into that after 14.1. I haven’t played 14.1 in years, just know I liked since I first saw it 30 plus years ago and had no clue what the bell was going on. I knew 8 and 9, I don’t think 10 existed yet. It drew me in though, the 9 foot table didn’t hurt.
FYI, 10-ball has existed for 50+ years. It was my practice game in the 80’s. The professional “tour” had a few 10-ball events back then.

I'd like to try playing American snooker at some point. What table did that/does that get played on? Is it a standard 10ft?
I’ve played American Snooker on 10’ and 9’ American Snooker tables. The cushion nose is a “triangle” profile like American Pool and not a flat-faced profile like Imperial Snooker. The pockets are curved. The rules are slightly different. The rules have been in the BCA Rulebook (not to be confused with BCA Pool Leage, which are CSI Rules)

I thought snooker was snooker? Not aware it’s different in other countries. Bunch of red balls and some pool balls here and a table that’s a bitch to cut into.
There are several different games that can be played on a snooker table, and there are American Snooker tables which differ from Imperial Snooker.

Some games in snooker tables include:

Golf
6 Reds
10 Reds
Snooker Plus (has additional colors/colours - purple and orange)

I’ve heard of Golf, what version did I learn?

You can play golf on an American Pool table as well.

Also, a well-known game played on a snooker table was Liability, which is a payball game with multiple players. But the payee only gets paid for the balls he made by the player before him. If you ever read Playing Off the Rail, the game is described in one of the action chapters.

I play all of the games from straight pool to back pocket 9 ball to versions of 10 ball and banks.
I will play whatever my opponent wants to play.
If I play this guy I know he will want to play a rotation game.
If I play that guy I know we are playing one pocket.
Interesting question possibly better summed up as what is YOUR favorite game.

In my opinion, the toughest thing in all of pool is staying at the table in 14.1.
The consistent focus demanded for that game is very high.
Watching Jason Shaw run balls in 14.1 is an extraordinary thing to watch.

I went to a nice bar with a few tables when I was living in Bozeman. But that was back when I only played snooker, and before I played pool more seriously. So I had no interest in remembering the name. Won enough drinks to get myself into a bit of rough and tumble. I remember that much about it 🤣
It's these type of situations that make me prefer bar rules. Negotiable while playing of course. ;)

There's a 10ft table at a hall across the river where I am. Played on it once or twice. It's not world's apart from a 9ft to be honest. It would be interesting to see 10ball on a 12ft snooker table (well, to us nerds anyway 🤣 )
Look up "bigfoot table" matches on youtube. It's really neat to see the pros play various games on them. I live semi-close to Big Dogs and watching them play chip games after hours was great. They have a pro tournament going on on the 9 footers while the "regular" players are in a seperate tournament on the 7 footers. I forget exactly who was there that year but it was some big names, played. I know Chohan was there, SVB, I think Sky, IDK if that was the year Ghorst was in it, may have been a different year. Anyways my memory isn't the best, never has been, but it was a real treat. Seeing them go for wild 5 rail kicks and such, each rail was worth a chip. It's not the hugest event but you see tons of people you recognize from "TV."

To me it had an aspect of HORSE (basketball) to it. Like 1 rail kick/banks you put up ante, then 2 rail, etc. I think they could buy back in at any time, so you had all the chips going to the pot. Nobody could cash them in so they had to spend them. I think in the end Chohan won it with something absolutely sick, just a ridiculous 6 or 7 rail bank, just a standard 1P shot, you know no biggie... o_O
