Pool in Adelaide Australia?

Welp, it turns out I am moving to Adelaide Australia to do a masters program at Flinders University. While I am excited to move half way around the world I am leaving one of the most rich pool scenes in the world for competitive pool, Calgary Alberta Canada. Does anyone know if the pool scene in Australia is decent? I am really hoping I will still have tournaments to compete in and some people around to play for cash in Adelaide. Maybe even a league that sends a team or two to the VNEA in Vegas. Plus if you know much about the pool scene in the palce what kind of tables do they have? Snooker big there? 9-foots and lots of 9-ball? Or are they mostly playing barbox 8-ball?

What do you want to know?
There are a few 9' gold crowns in Adelaide!!!!

There are a few places that have "yankee" rules tourneys...

Yes...they have a tourney to qualify for players to come to the USA and play in the Valley and the BCA. tourneys..and they have occasional 9 ball tourneys ....
When you get there be careful of their regular bar tables..they use a cue ball that is 1 7/8" and the object balls are 2"...
do not use a cue tip larger than 12mm or you will be in real trouble...
*note*take extra cue tips and a few ferrules when you move there..they have almost NO places to get "yankee" style stuff...
cue repair men are scarce!!!!
Tons of GREAT quality 12' snooker tables and are maintained better than almost anywhere I have seen in the States...
lotsa good players also...
*note * they always use all 15 reds not like we like to do in the States..using short racks....
I lived in Perth and Melbourne for about 3 years and will be going thru Adelaide next year to play around..
Gleneleg is a good place to live (by the beach)...

I will try to find my list of players names?

more info needed?

Out of all of Australia you pick Adelaide????? hehe..
Been through there once, but not to play..
Might though over the holidays, check out the scene myself

Ah Adelaide - city of excitement... wooohooo.... bring lotsa bottled water.

If I recall correctly the only official australian distributor of predator cues is in Adelaide and I think it is attached to a pool hall. Probably do yourself a favour to check out the predator web site and get the address, got to be american style tables there if they sell preds (from a logical point of view, so don't quote me).

You're probably going to run into more english style pool tables (look like little snooker tables) than american spec, so be sure to get some practice with the rounded pockets. Most locals will play with a snooker cue on these. The biggest difference this makes is in shot selection. You know those shots that could go in the side or the corner, on an american table its better to preference the corner, on an english table the side is the high percentage shot. The optimal object ball approach angle is also a little different and you will probably find you should hit most shots a tad thicker than your instinctive aim point for an american table.

Hope this helps - 8 ball banger

Adelaide, despite its size is probably the hotspot for Australian 8-ball and 9-ball. I believe they hosted this years official IBC tour stop. see www.ibc-tour.com

They have a few of the best 9-ball players in Australia including Alex Evraneidis (sp?), Phil Reilly, Emile Rierra and James Dalahunty. Alex and Phil run good pool halls I believe. Just ask around and you should be able to find them.

Enjoy Oz:-)

Sweet! Thanks for all the posts and help guys. Good to here Adelaide has some 9-ball and some quality players to play.
