Our camper & monster truck will permit us to vacation with the Clintons & Obama for $50 per day. Kayaking, fishing, hiking, & the beach are supposed to be great. Access to Harvard & NYC nearby.

What is the pool scene like?

On the Vineyard??? ROFL..... Sorry, but thats funny. I haven't been there is a few years but the last time I was I cound't find a pool table.......anywhere.

I suspect there are quite a few pool tables out there. Most of them are probably in perfect condition, having only been used on rare occasions, and are tucked away in an extra room in those nice homes, with cloth colors selected by an interior designer so as to not clash with the furniture in the room.

IOW, leave your cue at home, pack your golf clubs.

I suspect that all of you are correct. I notice that there are a number of "healthclubs" there. If I pull out my chalk to do deadlifts, they will probably arrest me for disorderly conduct. They probably use mink lined straps & prohibit sweating. I don't golf.

When we drive our monster truck off the campground & past their mansions, we will probably be searched & asked for identification.

I must admit that as a sociologist, I am curious about the place.

My wife teaches theater so she will also do some coaching at a Shakespeare Company in the Hamptons so we will be able to do some tax deductions.

It should be quite an adventure.

i'm so happy you asked this question! i'm gonna be there the whole second week of september for a wedding. berlowmj, PM me if you hear about any good spots. :woot:

thanks!

Don't laugh! Several years ago, my family lived in West Palm Beach, FL. My teenage daughter drove a GEO Metro (she called it her little rat car)
Anyway, she got a job working at a video store on the island of Palm Beach. The first week on her job, she got pulled over 3 times by the local police. They just saw that cheap little car out there among all the RR's and Jags, and decided it didn't fit. Eventually, they got to know her and left her alone.

I had a good friend who was born and raised on the island and my uncle has a place out there as well, but I've never been so I can't help you out with any first-hand details.

A couple of things though...apparently things can get pretty crowded out there in season. You probably don't want to be around any VIP and the security that accompanies those people. You may be waiting a couple of hours just to get some crabcakes and a Corona.

Also, your rig sounds like the kind of thing that would attract attention from the SS. Especially if you have some antennas on it and have some bumper stickers like, I Luv Explosives.

Re: the Geo Metro...I believe it was Miles Davis who upon purchasing a silver Ferrari Testarossa, drove down to the Malibu Sherrif's office to let them know that a black man would be driving around Malibu in a Ferrari and it wasn't stolen.

Hope this helps! G/L

Being from Rhode Island I have visited a few of the islands out there not Martha's Vineyard but Nantucket, Block Island, and trust me you will not find a pool table out there. I say bring your clubs as well, and be prepared for antique stores, and tourist trap shit stores (ie places that sell Martha's Vineyard t-shirts and crap like that). Other than I'm sure it is pretty with some nice beaches and scenic drives.
