Pool in the News!

I came across this article profiling a NYC player and thought I'd share it with the group.

Articles on pool players outside of pool magazines seem very rare to me and I thought it was a nice article to run across.

Is this something that the die hard AZBilliards family would like to see more of? Is this a positive for the game we love or is it useless drivel?

We often complain about pool receiving no exposure in the media, will articles like this make a difference? If YES then why? If NO why not?

imo the article focused on a high school dropout who quit working once he started playing pool. made a living gambling and playing tournaments.

after he became known as a pretty good player he couldnt get much action so he got a part time job which cuts into playing tournaments . so now he gives pool lessons to supplement his part time job with aspirations of becoming a pro one day.

its only my opinion , which btw you asked for. i dont see where that article shows todays pool players in a positive way. on a positive note he didnt become an alcoholic like his mother, which too many people that come from a disadvantaged childhood do. props to him for that, but that positive note in the article is not pool related.

Anyone on the east coast know of him? He must be known if he's done what the article says he's done. I'd like to hear someone that knows him wade in on this.

As for what the article says and whether it's negative or positive, I didn't get a feel for it being either way. Seemed to me to be just a profile of this guy.

Nice human interest story , and he seems to be doing what he wants in life . He is not lazy , has a part time job and is doing what it takes to make a living . Just wondering if 9 ball is his only game and whether he plays full rack games other then 8 ball . I'd say it was a positive story regarding pool for the non pool playing world to see . Hey , and he still enjoys the game .

Sean Morgan is a good player, A+ speed, maybe a lower Open class player, a little under shortstop speed. I don't know about a lot of the things he says in the article but the part about no one in NYC wanting to play him is nonsense! I can think of a handful of players that would line up to play him for cash. What he really means is no A players or under will play him. He plays 9 ball a little under Steve Lipsky.
