Hi Everyone,

I'm coming over for a business trip from the 7th-16th November, staying in Worcester (MA).
Depending on how things are going, I might as well come over to Boston, if there is nothing going on in Worcester itself ...

Do you know any good places to shoot some balls?

I alway like to meet people for playing (sorry, still don't gamble though), so if anyine would be interested, drop me a note, too!

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Drive down to snookers in providence. It's not much further from Worcester than Boston is, if at all.

It's actually less than driving into Boston, just about 40 miles maybe.

Are there usually people around who like to play´?

Billiards Cafe

Have a look at the Billiards Cafe in Ayer. A nice room.
... about 30 minutes drive.

If you want to play with serious players, Snookers is the place to go. If you can make their Wednesday night $20 tourney, its worth it. Strong players.

Well, depends on what you call serious player ... Not sure how to rate myself ... I've run a bunch of 30s in straight pool this year, but that would not be something regular, might need to ask the Minneapolis guys to judge my play, though 2 years have past since my last trip there ...

The tournament already starts 6:30, right? That'll be a problem, as we usually work at least till 6 and the customer seems to be pretty far outside Worcester ... Anyhow, I'll try ...

Thanks for the feedback!

There is also Amazin Billiards in Malden -- 8 or 9 full sized pool tables plus about 4 professional heated three cushion tables. Owned and run by Mazin Shooni, who is a former USA national champion at 3C.

Time will tell. New format starting this week. Players rated -A- to open pay 30. B plus and below pay 20. Even race to 3 on winners side. Race to 2 on the loss side.

Never liked "handicaps" with just entry fee, a good player paying more vs a bad player is not really taking much of a risk, with even races the worse players are basically giving the better ones their money. It's like putting down $30 on a 3-1 shot and putting down $50 on a 2-1, the guy paying 50 is not really risking anything different.

Half the field in Snookers can run 2 and 3 racks without the other player shooting.

For a good payers room, Snookers, Amazin and Stix and Stones are good.

For atmosphere and bar type, Snookers and The Billiards Cafe in Ayer would be my pick.

There is a Tuesday 8 and 9 ball tournament in Ayer, starts at 7, get 6-16 B+ to C- players there. Alternates with 9 on odd days and 8 ball on even days. My son and I play in that every week. On the 8th there is also a fundraiser tournament for the two girls from our league that are going to China for the World Junior tournament.

I agree with the way you broke this down. Ayer might be the friendliest room in New England. Not that the other ones are not, but there are a few more 'sharks' in the water at Snookers, Stix and Stones and Amazin. So if you want to compete at a little higher level and maybe $$, then those three would be better action.

I mentioned before, if you like three cushion as well then you HAVE TO go to Amazin in Malden. If you want to visit one of the most successful poolroom/sports bars/restaurants anywhere, then you have to hit Snookers. Ayer is definitely the most family and league player friendly and also happens to have a full sized snooker table if you are interested.

From all you say, I suppose the Tuesday Tourney sounds great to me.
Even better if it is for a good cause...
See you on Tuesday!

8th fundraiser is $20 and includes a raffle ticket for one of two Pechaur cues (shout out to them for donating the cues!), and dinner.

Start is about 6 for the event, 6:30 for the tournament, which really starts after 7.

I will have him put your name in the event if you happen to be later, it's a parters event, you pretty much get randomly paired up although at times we play with that rule. I was always paired with my son till he got too good and we would be favorites to win together LOL

Of course any of the AZers from the N.E. area are welcome to show up also

Sounds like great fun...last time I went to a Tourney like that, was in Texas... league players were paired with the Austin Wranglers (players, cheerleaders and coach) for a project supporting children with cancer if I remember right... coach and I won, but the funniest part was trash talking and sharking of the players and cheerleaders

Yeah and those young players are VERY competitive!!

Yes they are, they routinely win or place high in tournaments there. The league singles tournaments that get 40-80 people playing have had kids 16 and under place in top 3 almost every year. My son actually won 3 Vegas trips in 2 years in those tournaments LOL

One of the girls and my son wins or finish 2nd or 3rd in every state championship and have been in the top 25% nationally every year they played. I credit the fact that we have such a great junior coach for the kids in Roy Pastor and the atmosphere of the pool room.

This is true Mike. On paper, the new format is a move *away* from a "serious" tourney. Hopefully it works out.

Thanks guys for suggestions and for giving me the opportunity to meeting you!

The Scotch Doubles was fun, it's a shame that I'll miss the Tuesday night Tourney next week, as I must leave earlier than expected.

The Wednesday Tournament in the Green Room was fun, too.

From all the locations, Snookers felt best regarding the material, though the tables played super different to our home tables (probably messed up my whole game ;) ), apart from those freeking sitting benches in the mittdle of your playing area (wtf???) ...
Ayers is more of a comfort zone though, though I was not able to return for playing outside the tourney, I had the feeling that the people there were much more communicative.and you had a bit more space.

Maybe I'll be able to reurn one days!

CU!
