Pool league payout formula

In an 18 team league that collects around $14000 for the season what amount of money would you pay the teams going from 1st place down to last place. Is there a % formula that can be used?

If its an APA league it's simple.

1st Place gets a trophy and the league keeps all the money.
2nd Place gets a trophy and the league keeps all the money.
3rd Place gets a trophy and the league keeps all the money.

There is a similar local 8 ball league here with 23 teams that uses this formula for payouts.

4 man teams with each paying $5 per week dues, $20 total. There are a total of 9 points for each team to be won during each week of league play (the match could go 9 to 8 max, 17 points max to be paid out for points). They payout $1 per point "won" at the end for each team thru last place, the remaining money left over after paying points is divided to the top 4 or 6 finishing teams, with the top team getting more than the others.

In our Valley league, standings are ranked by rounds won. Payout is by points scored. Often, the 2nd place team collects more prize payout than the 1st place team, but its no biggie. Leagues are for fun, not for paying the rent.

The APA that you belong to is really generous. Our APA LO only gives trophies to the team that wins the play offs.

The local leagues that aren't affiliated to any national organization usually take out money for operating expenses which is very small and then some money for 1st place trophies and then divide the rest by games won. Therefore the pay out is according to games or points won. No bonus for coming in 1st, 2nd and etc. The teams that place higher naturally gets more money because they win more. Simple.

Right, I've never even seen a 2nd or 3rd place trophies for APA.

Honestly, within reason, the only thing I would really like to see is a annual gathering that may be fun. Aside from that, I really don't care what they do with my seven dollars a week.
