Pool Lessons From a Pro

I've decided to share my knowledge with the forums. Here is a sample of my 'Become a Consistent Player' lesson:

To be a great and consistent pool player, you have to come equipped. You can't just barge into a pool hall and adjust to the tables on the fly. Everyone knows that every pool table should shoot exactly the same, regardless of make/cloth/size/etc.. Some say that you become a better player by learning to adapt regardless of what you are playing on, but I think that's ridiculous. In fact, I strive to recreate the exact same playing conditions every time.

Here are (some) of the items I bring with me while I'm hustling.

- A polka-dotted glove (pink/purple); the dots help focus and reduce glare
- A 'Titanium' cue with a 'dragon' sticker or 'girls can shoot' on it
OR
- A 'Playboy' cue with water and little plastic fish within the butt
- A set of screw-on or slide-on tips, for backup during tough games
- My own chalk for 'consistency' on that cool little plastic thing
- Hunting glasses
- Another glove for my back hand; I switch hands while playing
- Electronic scale, to weigh the cueball and calculate ~90 degree angle rule
- A level so I can 'learn the table' and adjust/compensate for bad rolls
- High-power dehumidifier; I only play in perfectly dry environments
- Custom Tracks CD; only shoot the 9 during one song for consistency

This is just a glimpse of what I can teach you. Pm me to book your private lessons now!

After reading several of your posts I understand that you were not the one who invented gunpowder, but that you were pretty close when it first exploded...

You should PM DCP regarding private lessons......I really think that you could help him out of his slump!!!

all my diligent hard work and perseverance might be paying off, i think the slump is coming to an end. ran 15 racks today, hit some really good shots in doing so. also managed to botch several due to the same old stupid stuff. perhaps i should change my nic to "Botch"?

I see you switched to playing 3-ball. Smart move.

15 racks

This struck me as quite odd when I first read that post, but I've come to believe he
meant 15 racks, but not consecutively. I hope I'm right...

If not I want some of whatever he smoked before running those 15 racks!

And I'll add a helpful hint inline with the thread title.

I figured I'd add a helpful hint inline with the thread title.

"In almost all cases, you will have better results by hitting
the cue ball on the side that is facing you."

15 racks?????
I think that's FANTASTIC!!!
Now, when Scott gives you the "piling rocks" drill, tell us your percentage.

Quite possibly the best advice ever given!!!:D

Now, please excuse me while I try to stop laughing!

uh, no, not consecutively. i dont have enough luck off the break to ever have a chance at stringing more than a couple together.........:(

So you can string racks together but you need advice on making a straight-in shot from two diamonds away and whether you should be practicing a certain cut shot? Weird.

no no no no nooooooooo.

that's your biggest problem in a nutshell. you just assume that you are hard done by and have no luck. chances are you arent hitting the break well enough. if you hit that one ball dead square and also manage to kill whitey it in the centre of the table, but dont make a ball, then SOD IT. thats my advice and my mindset. the break is heavily dependant on the table as well. console yourself with the fact that pretty soon if you hit the breaks consistently well, them balls will soon be dropping like a teenager hitting early puberty, dont u worry about that.

but come on man, none of this i'm too unlucky to get a good result off the break nonsense, snap out of it!
