Pool - Louisiana Style

hard to get used to

I still get nailed at Buff's sometimes. I forget about the house rules and think I am leaving somebody a tough shot with the crutch and they just climb up on the table and stroll over to the shot. Which gives me a thought, wonder if a putter would fit in my case? A little leather on the face and I could call it a mace!

When I grew up playing at Greenway Billiards in Baton Rouge, we never gave a second thought to crawling up and all over the table. A Bridge? What was that? I didn't find out what that was until my first pro tournament in Atlantic City - me, Dot, Pat Bruner and Little Dot went up and I had to figure out how to use a bridge. (Now THATS a road story - but for a different time).

I also couldn't grasp the thought of going 3 rails for position...... had never seen that before either! All the greats playing in BR and everyone had to play differently there with the old, dirty, slow, wooley cloth.....you couldn't hardly go 3 rails if you threw it!

And last but not least...... how on earth did anyone ever play without that duct tape on the table holding down all the little tears? I mean, we used them for position!

Yep, Louisiana pool is a different animal all to itself..... but I wouldn't trade those days for anything!!!:D

I love browsing through those old pics from Mike Haines and Bill Porter.

Those guys have made such a great contribution to pool by offering up all those pictures of pool history.

A Big thanks to them. The Cue Club in Austin was always a favorite stop for me back in the 80's. The vegetable beef stew was the nuts! LOL.

When I started playing pool I seen that guy and he was my hero. Jumped balls better than anyone I seen at that time and before they made these jump cues that made everyone look good. (Smokey Bartlett or something like that)

That's the 80's hustler case! LOL

I heard that Smokey lost the Tony Orlando hair, put on some weight and needs weight now!!! :shocked:

How many balls would that case get you now! Just like mine for my sneaky, but I've got electrical tape on the ends and a paper clip to pull the zipper. Unfortunately, I really NEED the weight!
 
I still can't use a bridge that well since I grew up in Louisiana. We had a rule, "one foot in the pool hall".
