Pool needs better characters

These are tournaments.....hang out at the pool hall and you will see their characters.
In a tourney the players are on their best behavior. Get some of these guys in a pool hall and it's a different story.

That's true. I saw a video of SVB in a bar goofing off shooting the other day. Before seeing that video I sort of thought he was a robot, he shows zero emotion during tournaments(that I've seen).

The olympics continue only because money is involved, and boatloads of it.
People are obviously only doing it because there are boatloads of money to be made.
You don't have that, and you won't have any of those exciting amateur events you speak of, because nobody would care.

Sad, really sad if you think people only compete in Sports because of the monetary gain.

Can you come up with any other examples where people are playing for nothing and the results get reported on espn? Why do you think that is?
Because ESPN wants to make money not so much the Competitors.
The Competitors want to compete. The monetary gain is a far second.
What about......
The Iron Man?
Marathons?

Money is not the prime motivator to most competitors in Sports.

Marathon runners is your example? http://www.espn.com/sports/enduranc...orts-how-much-does-winning-major-marathon-pay

Nobody cares if there's no money bro. If the NFL disappeared tomorrow, we'd start to see collegiate football fall off immediately. Why? Because nobody cares about an "up and coming" quarterback that's going to be a second rate tax accountant after he gets out of college. Nobody would care. Feel free to keep yourself in Lala land though.

MMA is way more entertaining then it use to be. No its not because of Conor McNoBeltDefenses. That being said Conor Mcgregor has a lot of charisma and has opened up the sport to a lot of casual fans. Would be nice to have a few characrers like that in pool just to recurit the new comers. Earl was a lot of fun.

Guess we'll have to disagree on that. I found guys like Tank Abbot pounding water fountains of blood out of people's mouths and Royce Gracie ripping pony tails off heads way more entertaining than BJJ choke outs.

Plus, once again, you had a bunch of barroom brawlers. UFC was like a sanctioned street fight and I loved it. Literally watched a guy named Pat Smith get a Jeff Foxworthy looking guy down on his back and elbow him in the mouth until his mouth was erupting blood into the air--these days if someone gets on their back and takes a punch or two unguarded they stop the fight. :/

Though I did love Fedor as a modern champ, he's awesome in spite of just losing his come back fight.

Sounds to me like you probably stopped watching it about 7-10 years ago. Everyone has evolved now and grappling is on a down turn. Everyone knows how to defend submissions now so you dont see much of the lay n pray anymore. Striking is a much bigger part of the game now. Not to shit on grappling because a slick sub is just as good as a KO IMO.

Fedor is the man. Even with his loss. That fight cost me :(. Knew Fedor was over the hill but it hurts myself to bet agaisnt him.

It has been a minute for sure, I'll occasionally catch a marquee fight but even then I can only watch for a few minutes. And I know exactly how you feel, at one time I would have put cash down on Fedor versus anyone--my biggest regret in the MMA world is I never saw Fedor step into the octagon and tear Brock Lesner to pieces. I once saw that guy get his nose broken early on in a fight and he spent the rest of the fight taking full on haymaker's to the nose, shit never even phased him. It was incredible. haha
