Pool on FOX Sports!

Not trying to be dick here but didnt you say in your interview you wanted to help pool? If so then why wouldnt you mention other tours that are not a general threat to your Livelihood. Then you come on here and try to bash/humiliate with your statement of " Please make sure you mention every pool tour next time you're on TV buddy." To me thats not the way anyone should run a business. Also in fairness it was in bad taste for him to just come out and try to bash about whether you did or did not copy Tony Robles tour. But, You are the one with the business and should of came up with a more appropriate response to that.
I know that i will catch a lot of flack for this and dont really care so fire away

Not flack. But I think you're being unfair.

The value here is wide exposure of two passionate articulate people describing a sense of excitement around something involving pool--a sense that there's stuff going on--that you can expect to hear more about this sport--that it is popular elsewhere and that US is starting to get back into the swing of things... It is a simple message that is best not complicated by trying to accomplish too much...

Thanks for backing me up, but the part where I said they molded their tour after Tony's is true. Oscar and Chris can confirm this. Oscar has actually spoken to Tony numerous times on the phone to get ideas and ways to build his tour and make it as successful as Tony's, so I wasn't trying to bash anyone. All I'm saying is give credit where credit is due. I did enjoy the interview and they carried themselves very professionally and I have nothing against them, I only had one little critique. Sorry if I offended anyone or came off as rude.

Oh and this is not just towards Chris or anyone in specific. I actually love the Hustlers show but I am also appalled that they have never even mentioned any tournaments in the Tri-State NY area even remotely in any episode. They don't even mention that Steinway has Monday and Wednesday night tournaments each week or the Predator or Tri-state tour every other weekend just in case people are intrigued to go out and play and are interested in getting better competitively. Maybe Mikeyfrost or someone can chime in, but were they not allowed to mention other events or speak on the tournament side of pool in NY?

If you haven't already seen, the Mezz West Tour's Oscar Dominguez and (me) Chris Santana were interviewed on Saturday in Phoenix regarding the tour while we were at Stop #5. I was able to get a friend of mine who is a director at the station to get us an interview with Richard Saenz at FOX Sports:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wmxVVLKtOg&feature=youtu.be

If you have time, check it out. The more clicks and views we get, the better chance we have of getting a LIVE crew out to our next stop in Phoenix, which is in October. This segment was recorded and aired online only, so that they could gauge interest and get a budget for a live crew.

Thanks for all the support out there! We are doing big things for pool out here, but we can't do it without you guys.

Next stop on the tour is the NEW California Billiard Club in Fremont, CA August 8-9. Hope to see you all there!

Congrats to you both for getting in on one of the main TV stations! I'd love to see great things come of it.I love the tour and try to catch it every time it's played

How come you don't take the time to plug your favorite tournament, league, pool hall, or movie every time you post something?

I like to take things for what they are worth and not over think them. This was a nice interview and there was no reason to try and turn it into anything other than that. There was really no reason to try and turn it into a plug fest.

Thanks again for the support (from most). For those that are still upset that I didn't mention the east coast tours, please understand that this was not meant to be national sports news. Although WE are spreading the word about it to the world (the MWST), this was a Fox Sports affiliate in AZ. They were more concerned about bringing the people of Phoenix up to date about what we were doing - not so much the rest of the world. Their rhetoric and focus was that this tour was in THEIR town of Glendale, AZ. I didn't even mention our next stop, which will be in CA. Instead, he asked about when we would be back in AZ.

It's easy to see things in retrospect and realize what could have been, but remember that the reporter has a focal point, that point is AZ. It's his job to bring news about local sports to the people of AZ first and foremost.

We did not intentionally leave out anyone, so please don't imply that we left out Tony, his tour, or any other tour in the world. I happened to get a last minute interview with a local station, which aired this story online only. We had little time to prep and went with whatever questions Richard sent our way.

Thanks to the rest who understand that this is huge for the sport, regardless of what was or wasn't said. We are trying to shine a positive, professional, and athletic light on our sport, and I think we've done that at a small scale so far. Still lots of work. And if we get lucky, we may get a LIVE crew to do a story AT Main Street Billiards in October. I'll keep you guys posted on that.

That statement is actually false. Tony, Gail, myself and Oscar are all good friends. However, we did not call Tony or Gail at all for ideas on how to actually start or run a tour. I actually spoke to Gail one time and it wasn't in reference to how to structure the tour. It was in reference in which way is best to set up and file our taxes. Gail also gave me some pointers on how to create our logo :)

If you look at both, they are completely different. We use a different handicapping system, points system and set of rules.

Its very disheartening that you can't give credit where its due and accuse us of ripping off Tony and Gail's hard work. At SBE this year while Oscar and Tony were playing, Gail and myself chatted and swapped ideas on how to improve BOTH tours. We started our live scoring app and have helped them with pointers and advice on how to develop theirs. We work together, not against each other because simply there is no need to. We didn't mold our tour off of theirs. Oscar, Ernesto and myself were actually sitting around the dinner table when we came up the foundation of the tour (hanicap, points, rules, locations and 9ball or 10ball).

Tony and Gail, myself and Oscar all work very hard, so please don't start nitpicking and trying to stir up drama where there isn't any.

Between Robles, and now Dominguez and Santana, I'm getting the feeling the Latinos are taking over American pool.

It's about time someone did.

Again with the remarks dude, no one said they didn't support or didn't like what has happened they simply pointed out "one" thing that they wanted to voice "their opinion" on.

You guys were thoughtful and articulate with your answers. Awesome! I thought your explanation on the local perspective of the news interviewer shaping the topic was a good counterpoint to some of the critiques. Very good and introspective. Congrats on scoring the interview. I'll forward to my friends.

I bought a BATA shirt this morning from your fast&loose website, I got the confirmation email but will I also get an email once it ships out with a tracking number? Thanks.

We don't usually get tracking info on orders, but I can get that for you once it ships. Orders take about 10 biz days. Thanks!

Bolded part: not what he was trying to say.

Underlined part: what he was trying to say.

I don't understand where this thought is coming from that we're trying to knock you guys, because we're absolutely not. Don't assume we're too stupid to see parallels between what Tony has done out here and what you guys are doing out there, and the improvements you've made. I have yet to hear one negative word being spoken about the MWST from any NYC player, so I have no idea why you're getting defensive. For what it's worth, myself and others love what you guys are doing, and fully believe that it's a great model for what pool should be, and that's on both the MWST and Predator Pro-Am tour. I think what Kris is referring to is the wording used in the interview, that made it seem like this was all one person's idea from the ground up, which we all obviously know it isn't. I hear you Chris, it was specifically aimed toward the Arizona area, but you also knew the video would be online and the larger pool community would see it, and someone was inevitably going to call that out. I just figured Oscar worded it the way he did due to nerves, and left it at that.

As I stated before, in retrospect there is a lot that COULD have been said. I could have gone back to the Camel Tour and talk about that or talk about who came up with the original points system for NASCAR as well. I really don't understand the negativity here, it isn't fair and it implies lack of acknowledgement for the Predator Tour. There are TONS of things that could have been mentioned. But in the end, it doesn't matter what I say to you or anyone else who thinks we snuffed NYC - you're going to believe what you want. If you TRULY think us leaving that out was intentional, or that we made notes like "oooh! Don't mention Tony Robles!", then you TRULY don't understand what we're about. Oscar is probably the most honest player - hell, even person - that I know in the sport. We even had media sponsorship with NYC Grind.

We take criticism and suggestions openly (Oscar and Desiree amended many rules that were originally created and modified certain aspects of the tour based on player suggestions). What we don't take openly is criticism based on false pretenses and faulty assumptions. Comments like those are picked up by others who didn't even THINK that that was an issue and may now be questioning our intentions.

If you're reading this Tony, we fully support you and your tour. Any lack of mention for you and the Predator Tour was not intentional, and has unfortunately been pointed out as though Oscar and Desiree robbed you and failed to credit you. But you're a stand-up guy so I'm sure you know what's what. I guess every thread has a Keith who sees the glass fully empty. Keep the action up, NYC!
