Pool will not survive if players don't support it. Here is a new event. There is no better event for players that I can think of, $15,000 added, cost of getting there and staying (cheaper than any places I go), Diamond tables, nice little set-up, and TAR. If pool is your passion please let everyone you know this event is coming up. The Sands in Reno has supported pool for a long time, sadly they were forced to cancel both Reno Open events indefinately do to the lack of support. However they felt bad about it and thought since the US Bar Table event in March was still running strong, they thought they would try another Bar Table event. We need to get players to this event in order for it to be here in the future, and hopefully for many years to come.

Don’t be shutout from the $15K added Shootout!

From August 14-23 the Sands in Reno will host the first ever “Shootout at the Sands”. Bar box snipers from all over the country will not want to miss this summer spectacular, featuring extended races for men and women in 8 ball and 10 ball, along with a special team doubles 8 ball event the first weekend.

Promoted by Cue Sports International and directed by Bad Boys Billiard Productions, the $15,000 added money includes $5,000 for each men’s event, $1,000 for each women’s event, and $3,000 for team doubles. These events are open to any player, and all entry fees will go to the prize fund.

With the proven success of the Annual U.S. Bar Table Championships, the Sands has given bar box players another opportunity to showcase their talents on 7 foot Diamond tables. Mini-tournaments, after-hours action, a special pool player only poker tournament, and live streaming by TAR are waiting for you. Don’t get shutout. Make your plans today.

Wish I could

Hi Rick -

Wish I could be at the Sands Shootout. I'm going to be at APA Team Nationals August 23-27 and don't have enough vacation time to be gone practically two weeks in a row.

Hope the turnout is a great one because sure don't want to see something like this cancelled--sounds like an awesome event with plenty of fun, action, money to go around for everyone.

Thanks for all you guys do for pool.

Monica

I will be there. If for no other reason than to watch you move the tables up those steps. I never get tired of saying "Those guys are nuts"

:D

I urge anyone who can, to come out to this event. The Sands, Bad Boy Billiard Productions and CSI are taking a shot with this and I hope enough people are able to make the trip to help it continue and grow.

It is a cheap way to come have a good time and play long races on great equipment. If you make it out stop by the TAR booth and say hi. I am personally looking forward to the doubles event the first weekend. ANY TWO PLAYERS are allowed and could make for some very interesting match ups playing bar box 8 ball.

The BRINK OF DEATH?

Has it occurred to anyone that people in America who have JOBS don't have an unlimited amount of time off work nor money to "support" pool tournaments around the country? My stepmom works for a huge hospital chain, she has been with them for 30 years, she has TWO WEEKS paid vacation a year.

And right now those with jobs are wanting to hold on to them so asking for extra time off, even unpaid leave, is not something that most folks want to do when someone else who doens't play pool is standing outside ready to fill that position.

And even if you have the time it's not easy to travel to events and fade the nut of hotel/food/airfare etc... IF you aren't likely to cash in some way that gets you close to even.

What pool desperately needs is a way for all these big tournaments to be fed by local weekly tournaments. If you take a little bit of money from each player in the weeklies and spend it on the best player in those series to pay their way to the bigger events then it works out better for everyone. The bigger tournaments get plenty of entries they can count on, the players have EARNED their expense money and the local players all got a good shot to go with everything paid for. And I guarantee you that doing it this way will inspire a lot of players who didn't get the paid spots to go anyway.

But honestly, people have to make decisions as to which events they can attend. If my choice is BCA/VNEA in Vegas or DCC vs. Bartable Reno and I can only choose one due to my limited free time and budget then Reno is off the list.

Every major sport has a feeder system in place EXCEPT pool. No wonder we are on the "brink of death".

Hey Justin I may be lookin for a partner for the doubles, we could do some damage or at least take someone out of their game.

I think you took Ric's title a little too serious. I personally have not seen anyone who works harder physically and longer hours putting on pool events than Ric and his crew. They know all too well what pool needs and they are busting their asses everyday trying to make things happen.

When a guy like Ric comes and asks for a little support the last thing he needs is a lecture. I understand your post and agree with the spirit of it I just think the tone and timing are off. Relax man. If anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt and a little slack it is guys like Ric.

I understand Justin. I just really don't think it's the right way to go about promoting an event through fear and guilt.

IMO it's really better to tout the positives and keep hammering away like what has been happening with the Galveston event. The guilt trip approach rarely works.

I hope they get full fields。fwiw I do agree that the hardcore players should be making it to all these events.

Mybe some of the Arizona, New Mexico, and Cali players will come out. Unfortunatley until the Misses gets a job im tapped. I do like the idea of a feeder system. If something like that was available. I would be busting my a$$ on the practice table to make sure i win the weekly tournies.

wasnt going for guilt, I want players to understand that tournaments won't be around if players don't go. How many of you have looked at this post but didnt tell anyone about the event. The biggest problem is getting the word out. Most people don't read their e-mails or flyers on the walls at their local pool hall. It would be nice to use local events to get players to the bigger events, CSI is testing that with NCS qualifiers, it's not as easy as you would think.

From what I understand, Obama wants to take all the money from pool, golf and poker and use it for Socialist medicine. I think you'll see pool go underground.

The support asked for is if we don't go to his tournament, then pool will not survive?

Every new event that gets put on, is competing with all the other events currently on the venue. The average billiard supporter has a finite amount of time and money they are able to devote to this sport. The promoters are always pushing it back on those of us that support you guys as we don't care enough about this sport to do what ever it takes to keep the sport (your income) going.

You're right.. I'm sorry. I'll sell my house and all my belongings except for a van so I can travel between all these tournaments that are going on, so we can be sure to provide you and Ric an income. (How is this statement any more outrageous than "Pool is on the brink of death!!!!!!!!!!")

When the pool community is doing all IT can to support all the events that it can, the last thing we need is those who make a living off of us, giving us a lecture on how we're not doing enough.

I'm sorry. I took great offense to your post to JBCues.

Yes golf and poker gonna have ta give it up to Obama but I think the UPA,WPA and a few others could go stand in front of congress and get some of that "wealth redistribution" we keep hearing about.....maybe.....nah they don't have anybody worthwhile that the big "O" can fire. And does the UPA really rank with the UAW as a union that Obama and congress can pander to?

We've got the posters up and have had them up for awhile.
I announce the tournament dates, added money, CSI, Bad Boys, TAR and the Sands.

Northern California will always support the Sands Regency for all they've done over the last 30+ years.

Unfortunately Hard Times is having a tournament the Saturday and Sunday of the first weekend of the Shoot Out.

The Chuck Markulis Memorial. Is scheduled for the 15th and 16th
Thanks for not making it 9 ball, that would have really put a dent into the Memorial which is 9 ball and $50 entry fee with $2500 added.

Good Luck at the Sands. There are plenty of 8 ball bar box players in Northern California that should support the Sands Shootout tournament

You mean, Men's Pool is dying in America.

Dude relax. No one said anyone is a bad person for not going to whatever tournament. Lighten up. It wasn't a personal attack on you or anyone else.

By the way if I am making a living off of you can I have a raise?

My 10 year old car and 400 sq ft apartment need some upgrades.

<-----sneeks out and fires up the Ferrari for the nightly Rhino trip. Gonna make it rain on dem ho's

the title was just to get everyone to look, if you are supporting pool, great and thank you. My point was to get peoples attention. Promoting events such as pool is mostly word of mouth. Doesnt matter how many posters, flyers, and e-mails go out, word of mouth is the deciding factor. Sorry if anyone was offended, we are trying to bring in events players want.

Who cares. Pool is not defined by these goofy tournaments where you have to win to practically break even on expenses. Give me a break. Don't these tournaments get kickbacks from the hotels?

clearly you dont know how these tournaments work. The events at the Sands have good payouts with low expenses.
