A guy at the pool room came up to me and was telling me he wants to buy his first custom cue he said he could spend $500-$600. I told him to look around and see what catches his eye and we can get together and talk about some cue makers. I have some in my mine who do you all recomend? I know $500-$600 is not gonna get this guy a TAD or something to that effect, he wants the best bang for his buck!

Looking forward to some feedback

I would start with a Lucasi.

For under $200 - you can get a Lucasi that hits solid and plays great. With a good tip and proper care, it will provide everything needed. Some good deals on eBay also. That is where I got mine for $89 and I love it after playing with a Balabushka for over 40 years.
If your just looking for a good cue and not a collectors item - this is the way I'd go.

I have a couple cues for sale on Ebay that are within that price range.
One is a Joss and also a Troy Downey cue. Feel free to have a look.
Good cues at a fair price.

1st Custom

I'm with Tom on this one. For $200.00 or so you can get a really playable good quality production cue (like a Lucasi). There are many very good to excellent production cues out there.

For a true custon Zim has the right idea. Blackcreek and Webb are good. I'd also consider Jacoby and Huebler. I think you can get a cue to your exact specifications from any of those and stay under $600.00 if you stay away from the gingerbread.

The guy already is playing with some kind of production cue but really wants a custom cue. Here are the makers i was gonna give him:

Gilbert
BCM
Blackcreek
John Madden
Jerry Oliver
Webb
Jacoby
Randy Cox
Kenny Murrell

Tell the guy to add Murray Tucker, right here on AZB, to that list. I recently received one of his cues and it hits like a dream.
I believe he can get one, within his price range, but I'm not sure if Murray is taking any orders right now. He makes a great cue.

What kind of hit is he trying to achieve??

Does he want a custom for the hit or the one of design?

Have you set his expectations???

If he wants "custom" he will be waiting a few months.

For the money....

For the money, I havent seen anyone beat a Gilbert.

Thats my opinon and I am sticking to it........

He wants one for the hit, He's not looking for anything fancy maybe a four point cue. I let him hit with my wife's BCM and he liked that and he also hit with a Oliver and like that. So it seems he's likeing the "wood to wood" joint. I don't personally know what a Blackcreek, John Madden, Webb or Murrell hit like and no one around here has one. I am simply going on what i've seen and heard from people on here. He is prepaired to wait awhile for the cue.

Why wait...???

My advice is find a nice Gilbert or others mentioned off of ebay. It really is a buyers market right now.

I suggest buying a used cue from one of the above.

You can't go wrong with a BCM... Bryan is one of those perfectionist type cuemakers.....Check his website for availability.

Like i was saying me and my wife own BCM's you know who i was talking up!
Bryan is great to work with and still has good prices.

After much debate and looking around and hitting with several different cues my buddy decided to go with a BCM! I don't know anything about the design but he just thought Bryans cue were great all around.
