Pool,Priorities,& Balance

Well I am purposely staying home from playing tonight and may get bashed
over this. Seems as if my addictive nature has raised its ugly head and I have
neglected a few things in my life to play pool .To the point of not doing a few
things like work and taking care of other responsibilities that need my attention.
So I thought I would post this and leave it be for a week and see
what kind of response I get .In the mean time I am going to clean my shop,
install my stereo in my van, paint my deck, kick start an ailing business, and
see if I still got enough moxy to get a date or something :D
Let me lay out a few questions that have come to mind today.

1. Do you neglect other important areas of your life for pool ?

2. Would you enjoy playing ALOT more if the rest of your life was in order ?

3. Do you have a choice in this or are you just completely consumed by
pool ? Cues,Playing,Tournaments, Books,Videos and on and on

4. Do other people in your life not understand why you play and have a
burning desire to be around pool at all times ?

I've been in recovery,12 steps,NA, and have 19 years of continuous clean time
& know alot about addiction and recovery .Addiction does not have to
be to drugs and there are healthy addictions as well. However I know and
can feel when the boat is about to tip and I am over the edge and have
felt this way about pool for a while now. My hopes are that I can get my
act together and find the balance I so badly need and come back refreshed
A few signs of this was that I got so obsessed about wanting to play better
that my game got worse and worse .Also I quit having any fun with it at all
So I am posting this for me and in hopes it may reach someone who is
struggling with the same thing . Also someone who may have been through
it and found BALANCE

POOL ****s your LIFE up... im in college and sad to see what it has done to me, but im lucky to have an opprtunity to fix my GPA at the right time. i know im not going to be a young pro, i figure finish my degree and then pay good money for lessons which would boost my playing abilities. i already play well. its just i dont have the money, or time to do it as of right now...

You sound like me. I'm also in college and am completely enthralled by the game. Luckily, I have a pretty good GPA and have 2 more years to improve it. Unfortunately, pool seems to be all I want to do. Having people to play against is the real reason i'm ready for school to begin. :) And, yes, others don't share or understand my addiction.

Pool will teach you a lot about life. It will benefit you in business. But if you spend too much time in the dream world of "road trips", you may miss out on good opportunities in life. Pool is a dream world, and a place we are lucky to be in when we can!
