In a few weeks I will be traveling to San Angelo, Texas for 4 months. What rooms should I look for while I'm there. Of course near by cities would be ok, I just don't want to drive 3hrs to play. Rooms with good tourneys would be best.

Thanks,
Jimmy

San Angelo,

JLITALIEN,

It's been a long time since I have been there, but back then the best place in town was called "Giz & Hum's". It's a great place owned by a great guy!

I even recall visiting with Mike Massey there once. He is also a very nice guy.

Thanks Royce, I looked them up and it turns out that "Giz & Hum's" is only 5 miles from where I will be staying! But I must admit the name kinda worries me! :p

So I check more into Giz & Hums' and it sounds pretty nice 10 9' tables 2 bar box and 1 snooker. I also found out that Mike Massey has a trick shot that he named "The Giz & Hum Mess"

Jay,
Thanks for the tip on Dillingers. I could care less about the eye candy; I am happily married. I am more intent on finding a players room that I can live in for four months when I am not working or studying.

Hey Jimmy,

My name is Eric and I live in a city about 2 hours west of there called Odessa. There is a nine ball tournament the first Saturday of every month at the Golden Cue on the corner of Grant and 14th ST. which is a $25 entry and there is a clacutta. Race to 7 and race to 5. Usually first place is around $500, it has been up to the $1000 range. And I am sure there are players from around here that will match up if you would like. Some players from San Angelo come here for the tournament. Every once in a while we get people from Dallas and even Houston. Anyways just something to keep in mind. Hope all in San Angelo is well.

Sorry, sorry, sorry. Dillingers is in San Marcos, near Austin. Hell, I'm lucky I can find my way home every night.

I grew up in San Angelo, and travel there all the time.

San Angelo is not a great place for pool. Period. Giz n Hums is the only pool hall in a hundred miles. Pronounced ["Giz" not "Jiz"] Abilene is the next closest place = 1.5 hours away. BTW, there are no longer 10 9' tables - more like 3, and the rest are 8'. Plus they sold the snooker table at least 2 years ago. Mike Massey used to run with Jody Hall from San Angelo years and years ago. Mike used to come back to visit and give a free exhibition in the 90's, but that went the way of the dinosaur.

If you are looking to match up for practice or for action, I can arrange a game for you. PM me for the scoop.

BTW, what are you going to be doing in San Angelo? There's not much there - even after 30 years of growing ;).
