Pool sponsors

I have not heard of Aramith, Simonnis or Brunswick tournament . Why is that ? Are they suppose to be supportive of pool? I know they do sponsor most tournament, but wouldn't it be good to have them organize their own?

noob,

In the corporate world, the companies you named are small potatoes with minor audiences. Having one of them invest $100,000 to sponsor a major event is suicide. What pool needs is another group of companies like Phillip Morris, Miller Brewing, Coca Cola or Pepsi. Someone with Worldwide clout. Not just limited to a minor sport like pool. You probably don't remember Miller Brewing Company's ads featuring Steve Mizerak. They've been there before and we (the pool players) screwed it up. Research the Camel Tour. They are very wary of supporting the game of pool. At least here on the West side of the big pond. With the hubbub of "thrown" matches in Snooker, it may affect that side as well.

Noob, Aramith made balls thats what they do best. Simmonis = Cloth and Brunswick tables. This is what they do best, they are not promoters of pool tourneys. However they all do sponsor events as you mentioned. I think (don't know) that they are happy just doing what they do.

I am surethat they have at least thought about it in the past but decided that there is too much risk in producing a major event of their own. All promoters of major events are in the same boat especially these days. Itake my hat off to anyone who had the huevos to put on a big event.

I hope that helps.

I really cant believe that you or anyone would think that these three companies do not support pool just because all they do is sponsor tournaments and not have there own organized tournaments.

I dont want to put words in your mouth, but I think what you actually wanted to say is:

Since Aramith, Simonnis, and Brunswick are sponsors for almost all the major tournaments and a ton of local smaller tournaments, wouldnt you think that one of them would stop sponsoring individual tournaments and establish there own tour or tournaments?

I do believe that it is an interesting concept for one of these to set up a tour but then if you look at it from a business perspective, is it worth it?

Now I dont have any clue what exactly these companies contribute to each tournament, if its cash or is it a product but I would not think that any of them contribute more than 100k a year and it would cost way more than that to establish and run an actual tour that produces as much publicity as they get right now. If you start thinking about hiring employee's, added money, travel expenses, bookkeeping, taxes, so on, its a spendy adventure. Oh, and remember, theres no cutting corners, or "cheating the system" because if you do, you will be putting the entire company in jepardy. I just don't think it is worth it.

Also, it was said earlier, they are specialist in there own field which does not convert over to being a promoter.

just my 2 cents.
