There is nothing I love more than reading a story about pool whether it’s a great match, a great shot or telling about a great player. I don’t even care if it’s about two great players or two C players I have never heard of, I love them all. So I wanted to start a thread for others that feel the same way. I want a place we can always come too to read about pool from the past or even last night, something like the funny pic thread is for a good laugh. With that said I ask that everyone post a story or two, I don’t care if you have told it a thousand times, if we never heard of the players or even if it’s made up. Just as long as it’s a Pool Story you want to share with others who love this wonderful game. Thanks in advance for any and all posts.

I thought that since I started this thread I should start with the first story, hope you like it and post one of your own. As I mentioned before I love to read about pool, I also love to watch it. I don’t care if it’s for a thousand a game or even a dollar if it has two players who love the game I like to watch. Several years back Tater had gotten some money and came to town to play TO, who was one of if not the best in our area. They got on the 9ft diamonds in the little room off by itself and decided to play a race to 10 in 9-ball for $2500. I think TO was giving Tater the 8 but not 100% on that. Anyway TO won the first set 10-4 and Tater asked for the break. To my surprise TO gave it to him. This set was much closer and at 9-8 TO, a bank came up on the 5. It was froze to the rail at the first diamond on the long rail with the cue ball froze to first diamond on the short rail making a triangle with the lower left corner pocket. I thought for sure TO would play safe or run it down the rail, instead he banked it in the upper right corner and ran out winning the set. Tater did what he did what he did best and began talking shit about how he couldn’t make that bank again if he had too. They got very heated at one point and I thought it would come to blows but TO set the shot up again and said bet. They agreed to match shot for shot for a $100. TO went first and split the pocket, Tater missed by 3 inches or more. Next shot TO rattled and Tater did the same, after that TO hit 3 straight with Tater making one. Then TO missed and Tater made one, you would have thought he had made the game winner for all the cash in the room. At this point TO got really pissed and hit 4 straight to Taters none and on the 5th shot by TO he yelled “I can’t believe you wanted to bet a Black man on a bank” as it went in. Tater missed by a diamond gave TO his last $100 and walked out. It was great and I could have watched them all night. Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I don't know who the players were in this story,,but it was told too me by a Lovely Lady that I knew back when in Lexington Kentucky.
Two gents had been playing pool together for years and one of the guys had always robbed the other player everytime they played.
One night when the game was going on,,,the gent who always won was having a very bad night and was loosing and loosing big to his buddy,,now this is where everything comes unhinged--the pool room catches on fire and everybody leaves outta there--except for the two gents playing on the back table--they won't stop playing--one of them because he had never won before and the other because he had never lost--from what I gathered--the room was so damn full of smoke you could hardly see much less make a ball--but both of the gents played right through the comotion with the smoke billowing and fire fighters doing their thing ,,these two just kept their heads down and played on. That there is Pride:thumbup:

nice thread. here's a recent story. (forgive my english)

here in the Philippines, the pool hall where me and my friends play at is more of a gambling arena than the typical weekend place where friends hang out. about 80% of the people who go here do not play - they just hang out there to bet against each other when money games are played. bets are usually on a per-rack basis. they also bring their "guy", kinda like a house player (called "panersera") who will be available to play in case someone will be looking for action. these players are really good. they typically give "outsiders/visitors" 9 or 8-9 on a 10-ball match.

last saturday, when i was there with my friends, one of the tables had about 25 people surrounding it - the usual money match; and if there's more people surrounding it then it's assured that really good players were playing. i approached the table and saw Snooky Villanueva playing. He won gold in 1998 at the Asian Games but he went low because of some problems. He still plays really good though. i asked one of the folks there, "who's this other guy?" i've never seen him around. someone answered, "Guy's name is Eric. He beat one of the guys before this match, but he was given the 9." After about 30 minutes, the match with snooky was over. this guy won again 10-5, no handicapping. i saw the guy play and he was really good. then one of the top players there named "J.R." arranged to play the guy next. JR lost 10-3 very easily. It was over and alot of folks there were disappointed, probably lost money. then Eric left.

after an hour, i overheard one of the guys in the smoking room. he said, "Oh i know that Eric guy. he's 'Eric Calamba'. if i was there earlier, i could have warned you to slow down on your bets against this guy. He played Efren and Carlo Biado a couple of times. they play equal, no handicapping." then i said, "isnt it that Ronnie Alcano is 'Calamba'?" Calamba is the city where Alcano was from. in the Philippines, your local alias as a pool player is the place where you are from. If SVB is from South Dakota, then a typical alias would be "Shane South Dakota"; or Nick "Kentucky" Varner. so the guy told me, "No. he's now the new 'Calamba'." i saw him play and he was that good. :)

This is not a high $ gambling story, but it's true.

Many years ago (early '80's), I was in a bowling league at a local King Louie. I was a pretty lousy bowler, but it was a fun handicap league. One night, the league hot-shot -- a real douchebag but a terrific bowler -- woofed and woofed at me to bet individually on our teams' match that night. Me against him, with handicaps. I don't even remember the exact bet; it may have been something per point. Anyway, he crushed me, gloating about it the entire time. I didn't lose a lot (something under $100), but it wasn't fun at all.

When we were done, I asked him if he'd like to continue wagering, but this time on the Gold Crowns there in the bowling alley. He jumped all over it. Turns out he fancied himself a terrific pool player as well. After all was said and done on the table, I had won back all my money, plus all the money he had on him, but he wouldn't quit. This being in the days before ATMs, and me not willing to extend him any credit, I told him we could play another set if he insisted. I'd put up the $ I'd won (which would make us even if he won), against his bowling ball, which was at the time a state-of-the-art custom.

I bowled the rest of the season with his ball (after some modifications to fit me), with his name "CHAS" still engraved on it, and enjoyed every minute of it.

i got 1 for you ...its just an apa league story though.

we picked up a new player.. a young girl about 21-22 years old. she was a big girl..anit talking fat just a big girl about 6' 150 -160 pounds .

she was a real good shooter for a 2. drilled everything straight in ..never missed a shot she should make but had no idea what cue ball control was.

her 2nd match ever in apa she face a real good 5 who played a lock down safe. we were playing the lo's team and he and i were sitting beside each other keeping score.

well i called a time out and went up to the table to advise her. the cue ball was near the bottom right corner and the 1 ball was about a diamond from the top right corner. there were 5 balls surrounding the cue ball and just no way i saw to kick out of the corner much less get on the 1 ball.

i pointed out a spot i wanted her to hit the side rail thinking the cue ball would hop over the balls surrounding it. my last words were to hit the cue ball hard so it would hop off the rail.

went and sat down by the lo and she rears back and smacks the hell outa the cue ball. the cue ball flies straight up in the air higher than the lights making an arc back up table , lands back down about 2'' past the 1 ball , hits the top rail , comes back down table hitting the 1 ball knocking it against the rail.

the lo turns and looks at me with his eyes bugged out and jaw darn hear hitting the floor and says what the hell was that ? i said what do you mean what was that ? she darn near made it in the corner pocket.

he said he has never seen a shot like that. i told him i advised her to hit the rail 1st hard to hop over the balls. i told him i was just thinking normal girl hard .. not amazon girl hard and we both bust out laughing.

You need to write the story in a more proper format with paragraphs. On my small screen I can hardly read your story. To be honest, I didn't read it. In fact I prefer reading on the computer better when they are written like post 6 with lots of breaks
