Pool Table Light

I'm looking for a pool table light for the new Diamond Professional. The table will be a 9-footer so the light needs to be at least a four fixture light. The one I have on my Gold Crown IV is about 5 1/2 feet long. It works just fine. Most of the ones I see anymore are only about 4 feet long. I don't want to spend a ton of $$$ on this light either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? The attached pic, while kind of dark, sort of gives you an idea of what I am looking for.

Also, can anyone tell me what the standard height above the table surface is for a light? I was thinking it was around 36-40 inches.

I read everything on here looking for a light for my Diamond table.

I finally settled for a Littman and couldn’t be happier!!

I have been doing a lot of pool table light research in anticipating my next new table and so far the Littman 8 foot light will be my choice as well - not cheap - about $1,000 - I guess something home made or a different style would be a fraction of this cost - but I’m not into making my own light and Littman never gets a bad review.

I recommend a plug into a remote capable receptacle as opposed to hardwire just in case the light ever needs servicing .

Littman light. They come in different sizes, get the one they make for a 9' table.

Or, go the DIY route and get qty 2: 2x4 LED lights and mount them end-to end on the ceiling or on chains, depending on your ceiling height. With those LED panels, they can be quite a bit higher than the old lamp style lights and still do a great job. Mine are flush mounted to my 9' high ceiling, and I think they are perfect there.

2x4 panels are commodity pricing now. Can get 2 of them for $100.

I did TONS of research on table lighting to facilitate the build of the two custom fixtures below. IMO, the light you pictured doesn't provide enough light; it's not large enough. You want a fixture about 100" long to produce enough light for the entire table. In terms of how much light and what temp, I landed on 20,000+ Lumens, 5000 Kelvins and a Color Rendering Index of at least 90. I'm a fan of form and function so I would probably go with the Diamond light to match the table.

This is what Diamond recommended back in 2020 when I purchased my Paragon, light, cue racks and 16 ball polisher from them. The LED lights are 5000 Kelvin, which is a bright, neutral light temp similar to daylight.

That light is way too small for that table, the light needs to be as long as the table to get good, even coverage.

That’s old stuff. Diamond now has litttman make their lights. They use qty 3: 2x2 panels, with about 10” of spacing between each panel, and a proper eggcrate style diffuser (which they’ve always used since the 90’s).

Either that arrangement or qty 2: 2x4 panels end to end is great for today.

LED Tubes is old stuff and was only to work with existing/legacy fluorescent fixtures.

Thanks for the update! Yes, that was 5 years ago, and that's an eon in today's technology movement.

DCP, why in the world are you looking for lamp style lights from 1950?

I like that style. Old fashioned I guess.

Plus, as I've said before, since this could be a temporary thing I don't want to spend a ton of $$$.

I think I might have found the light.

You get what you pay for.

It tells me all I need to know when they are selling it as a pool table and kitchen/dining room light. Let's just say it's something I would not hang over a table I own.

Call and ask if their Labor Day special is still valid.

Order a 7', 8', or 9' table and get 50% off any accessory including matching light or 8/16 ball polisher.

You'd be better off with a single 2'x4' LED panel from Home Depot for $50 in the middle of the ceiling than that. (and that's the minimum for a serious player today). Anyway, to each their own:)

FYI Folks,
This is exactly the same light I have over my Gold Crown IV.

Works just fine.

Looks just fine to me.

I'm sure it will be fine for the Diamond.

As I've said, it could turn out to be something temporary so I am not going all out here.

Then why ask for input?
