Pool Table Question

I want to buy a 9 foot table, probably used, is there one brand/model that is better than others when you factor durability into the equation?

I myself am not that tough on equipment, but I have a 9 year old son that will undoubtedly be a teenager in a few years.

Not knowing any better I will prolly look for a used Gold Crown or something, unless one of you steers me different.

It would be easier for you to look at a few tables and when you see one that interests you---let us know. We can then give our opinions.

I would suggest that in the meantime---study up on parenting so your son and his friends appreciate your possesions.

If you're worried about abuse, you might consider a Diamond with the special "Dymondwood" rails which are some kind of epoxy-filled wood. They can take a great deal of abuse that regular formica or wood rails can't stand. I think it's available on most of their full-sized tables.

I would recommend Diamond or the gold crown. Both are great tables and withstand alot of abuse, although I think the older gold crowns such as the 1 and 2 would be the most durable talbe available. I own a Diamond Pro and the dymondwood rails are a great feature.

Which table can you find cheaper in your area? That would be my deciding factor.

Well if you want durability the GCs are a great line. I have GC3 that use to belong to a pool hall. The rails are in great shape.

But even a 9ft furniture style can stand a lot of abuse. And the looks can last if you buy a lighter finish like Oak.

One suggestion, that might help you. If you give us an idea of where you live or close to (city & state), maybe one of us, that know of a good table, could steer you in that direction... just a suggestion.

I live in the Seattle area, Washington State.

Craig Rittel is a member here under the name Manwon. He's got a shop in South Tacoma. Send him a PM and I'll bet he'll be able to help. If he doesn't have something he'll at least be able to steer you in the right direction.

GC fan here...

I have a Gold Crown 2...so they tell me...which is around 40-50 years old and plays real nice...not too many footprints on it...

Also, check the recent string on "The Best Cushions."

Gold Crowns

If you play often at one of the local Seattle rooms, you probably want a 9 footer...but if you play mostly on the bar boxes I would recommend getting a 8 footer! After the 'newness' wears off for your kids, the 8 footer is much easier to play on for the general NON- players, and you still get to play when you wish at home (just set it up tight).
I just happen to have a few 9' Gold Crown III's for sale in the Vancouver WA area. I also happen to have a few 9' Gandy Big G's. All in good condition.
