Pool & TV

Ask (amateur) pool players across the world,, what they would do if they ever had a chance to play a pro,,,,,get it all on film. Along with a video of their game and what they have to say about playing the pro's. (probably cocky, walking around the table shooting in balls left and right)

Then,,,,,,,walk them into a pool room,,full,, with the best players in the world.

Start them on one side playing a race to 3,,and they go all the way around the room,,playing each pro.

At the end ,,get a interview, and some video of them trying to run a rack on their own. Maybe offer ,,at this time,,$1000 if they can make 4 balls in a row!!!! LMAO!!!!!

that's an easy one

very simply it would be just like the show "keeping up with the kardashians" only it would be Earl Strickland we would following around all day with the camera. And as a comedic aside, like we would need one hehehe, we could cut away to Dave Chappelle doing an imitation of Earl in the same situation. Now that would be classic can't miss tv!!!!

Give me your best idea for a reality show about pool that would get millions to watch.
You can't get away from the fact that league play is where it's at. With millions of league players in this country and you can't forget every bar has many patrons who come in to watch their team play and are fans, this is a big number. League play is such a big untapped force in this country it needs to be exploited. It really is kind of mystifying how this is missed by big sponsors.

Documentary style. Follow Shane, or Orcullo around the world. Orcullo would probably make better tv.

The problem is, no one knows or cares about them. I can't really imagine that the day to day goings on in the life of any pro pool player would interest the public. I could see a reality show that is set in a pool room with lots of characters and their various lives and interactions attracting some attention.

Did you know the first drafts of the TV show Taxi was set in a pool room? Cheers is another example, although those shows were fiction not reality. The trick is, the public has to care about the people involved even if it is to dislike them.

I don't think that really matters. TV is what makes people know or care about them. The producers just need to apply a positive spin to it. Introduce them as the best in the world. With such an ethos, they're bound to get attention. Everyone wants to see the people who are the best in the world at what they do, no matter what it is.

The way it is done is to do it. Someone would have to do several segments at their own expense and shop it around. If they get some interest then order up a few more segments. It is hard to believe, there are shows about Balloon art, cake decorating, Swamp people, you name it. You would think that something could be done with pool in some fashion.

Everyone loves pool so there would be interest!

I would hope there would be, millions play every week on bar leagues, in pool rooms, clubs, homes you name it. As I said earlier, I think something about leagues would be the way to go. There is an instant audience. The question is, would they watch?

Some good ideas so far. Should we consider how to get the general public (millions of players) to connect to whatever it is they are watching?

Maybe a show with kids. Take 6-10 kids of same age group who haven't shot pool before and team them up with their own well known instructor to teach them. Show them practicing and learning and then have a tournament at the end where they compete against each other to see who comes out on top and have the instructors give feed back on thier pupils and thier training method. And have special appearances from some well known palyers. Of course this would have to be done for a few months with a show each week showing the progress they make. Sort of like Dancing with the stars.

I honestly think you got to keep it fresh! League one week, next week a local thinks he is gods gift to billiards is blind sided by a challenge from a professional kind of like bully beat down. That the following week maybe spotlight an up and coming player! Just what ever you do don't do it with 3 different things going on at one time jumping back and fourth from a local hustler to a league to a pro/rookie challenge. That gets boring as hell and it is to much to keep up with, we want to see something that we can remember in full not just parts of!!!!!

How about high school/college teams playing each other in a atmosphere where all of their fans are there yelling and screaming/cheering for their team?

Bottom Line is

When they can make a shows like Storage Wars - Cooking cupcakes - House Hunters - popular by writing a script that makes the show entertaining, how do learn from these shows and do some pool tournaments/events that are entertaining.

Most everything I see today does not make for good TV when it comes to pool. You would think with all of the great minds we have here on AZ......we could figure something out.

I have the connection, not the soultion.....help!
