I certainly do live in an area such as you describe, quite a nice area.

Let's see how many places I can get to within a 20 minute drive where the table time is reasonable.

Well, there's

* Chris's Billiards: $2.75/hour before 6PM, $3.75 after 6.

* Chicago Billiard Cafe: Weekday specials of $5 flat rate from noon-5pm and $7 from 3-8PM; weekends are $10 flat rate from noon-6PM.

* Chris's II: everyday special from noon-6PM for $10.

* Cuephoria: Mon-Wed from opening (2pm) til close (2AM) for FREE (just buy two or more drinks, they have beer specials on Mondays and Tuesdays, all sorts of specials... and food, and darts, and foosball, etc., etc... Am I spoiled, or what?? :D

Flex

i was spoiled like you and then the owner of the hall i grew up playing in offered me one of their gold crowns for $1500. for the past six years i've been really spoiled! :)

Flex i think the prices you quoted for Chris's is for like 3 or more people at one table..i thought it was about double that for single ? just curious i haven't been there for about a year...

How big is your room so we can compare? Are you talking 3 bucks a table or per player, 2 players or more? What are the rents in your area? It is like your business is a side to your main retail business so you can afford to do that and you own the building.

We have a 17 table room. We charge per hour/ per person. I don't know what the rents are in our area by the square foot. Havent shopped it to the square foot. A friend of ours just opened a place about our size and is paying about $7k a month for rent. His neighborhood is comparable to ours. Middle income. Older strip mall. We do own our building. It is the single reason we have not gone bankrupt. Too many years of slow pool. And in St Louis we are going into a slight slump lately. Hope it comes back soon.

Reading some of these prices makes Japan seem cheap. The place I usually play at has a "Free time" that costs 10 bucks from 1:00 to 7:00. Let me add that "Free time" in Japanese means all you can play. After that it's 6.00 per person per hour. All Brunswick tables 4.5x9. The owner is a player and he takes care of the tables really well. Of course they make the most money off of those electronic dart machines.

Another place that I go to is 3.00 per hour all the time. Only problem is that there are only 4 tables, all Gold Crowns, and it's usually only people playing a ring game.

I play there a lot, and those are basically the rates for a single person. I forgot to add that it's $.50 more per hour on the weekends. Whatever. However the rates there are not bad at all.

Last night, Sunday, I warmed up for the 9 ball tournament, starting around 6:40 PM, and shot on that table until about 7:30. The cost was $3.25.
