Poolhalls in Anchorage?

I know there are some Alaskans on this forum, so hopefully they can provide some info.

What is the best poolhall in Anchorage to play in? Are there any 'family' oriented poolhalls there, and are they any good? I am trying to locate a nice place to play that is basically alcohol-free.

Thanks in advance!

There are three and soon four pool halls in Anchorage three without alcohol. By far the nicest one is the Anchorage Billiard Palace. It has a full bar and no one under 21 allowed. Minnesota Billiards is a rough kids hangout. Diamond Billiards I have not been there (because it has no alcohol) but I hear it’s OK but nothing special. There will be a private club down the street from the Anchorage Billiard Palace soon.

the Palace is the place to play.

I have an "Anchorage Billiards Palace" magnet on my pool-room refrigerator. I've been told it is a great place. Management is responsive to the customer's needs, so if you are thinking of going, just call them ahead of time and they can ban breakup to make sure he doesn't ruin your visit.

Absolutely, Billiard Palace is the place to go. Even with the alcohol, it is a classy place. Very nice atmosphere and some beautiful old brunswicks.
Avoid Minnesota Billiards like the plague. Went in there a couple weeks ago before we left out for Vegas....... rough is a harsh word, just a bunch of kids and loud pounding rap music coupled with poorly maintained gold crowns. They do have a billiard table though, which was strange to see in that atmosphere.
Ive heard Hot Shots may be opening or has opened back up somewhere up there? Maybe Breakup has heard? This is probably the kind of place you are looking for. It was a family oriented place in the Diamond center shopping mall. Closed up when the smoking ban hit Anchorage.

I played at the Billiard Palace and had a great time. Played some cheap one pocket with the kid behind the counter then played a ring game. The tables are one of a kind antiques. Truly beautiful tables. Check out the inlay work.

sorry for the off topic post but i was wondering if any of you are gonna come down to prince rupert b.c. for the 8 ball tourney being held next month(june 9th) i know the first year we started a few guys from alaska came down a little to late to get in than last year we had another alaskan competitor scudero i believe was his last name. last year there was about 20 or so players so we had a nine ball event on friday(20 dollar entry fee) and 8 ball on sat(50 dollar entry). this year may be the same but from what i have been told if the field is large enough it will just be 8 ball both days. ive had one person call the hotel i work at from the yukon so it looks like it could be a nice tournament. pm me if you want details or the phone number of the tournament director.

Thanks to all who responded....the info is truly appreciated. I have a friend who wants me to teach him how to play, who is a 9yr recovering alcoholic, hence the inquery as to the alcohol-free poolhalls available. However, it doesn't mean that I can't go to the Palace!;) Thanks again!!

Hot Shots was open on Muldoon but closed about 2 years after new management took over. I used to work there about 4 years ago. The tables were beautiful... I miss playing there. But by far I would have to say that billiard palace is THE place to play. Definitely steer clear of Minnesota Billiards, They have had entirely too many shootings and stabbings in their parking lot.
