Poor Losers Refuse to Shake Your Hand When Beat

no guarantees

Not to make light of your concerns, I have to ask, how do you open a door? rest your hands on the bar/counter when ordering, anywhere? The pool balls themselves, they're touched by that very same opponent you refuse to shake hands with, the rack too. A bridge, likely as well.

Again, I'm not trying to demean your concern, I just don't understand it.

I wash my hands, fairly often. Cuz my hands touch stuff, fairly often.

In public, I try to always be aware of how I am touching doorknobs, push handles, pull handles etc. For example, when I leave the men's room after washing my hands, I use the towel to grab the doorknob; when I pump gas, I always have and use hand cleaner or wet wipes before I start driving. You are right; there's no guarantees about what you might touch inadvertently.....I just try to be as sanitary as possible; more so now than in my youth, because when I catch a cold these days, it's like a major sickness, not like in my younger days when I could shake it in a few days. Could be in my old age, I am in the beginning stages of germophobia like Howard Hughes had. LOL

Gotcha :p

I always offer my hand to my opponent if I win or lose and always say "You played well."

I'm the same way, I don't touch doorknobs or handles I just pull my shirt sleeve down or use the bottom to open them. I try to only fist bump people, shaking hands skeeves me out. I know rationally that the balls, racks, etc. aren't much different, but I suppose having a line somewhere makes me feel at least like I'm maintaining some level of control over the situation...

It's odd I know.

How about the cooties on the table? I guese you wear a glove.

you can't win

How about the cooties on the table? I guese you wear a glove.

Cooties are everywhere; just like land mines in a war.......you just hope one doesn't get you too soon.....a cootie will get you sooner or later.....we can't get out of this alive.

Must be tough playing pool.

I think as the winner of the match you should acknowledge your opponent and offer respect due to another player....... unless they were a dick. Then it's on

So here is my story.

I was in a tournament and I had to play a good friend of mine. He is a high C and I am a high B low A at the time. The race was to 8 and the score was something like 4-2 me!

He pockets the 8 and scratches 2 rails! The 9 is about a foot from the lower corner pocket wide open. As I saw cue ball coming off the top rail, I saw it going towards the side but his body was in front of the pocket and couldn't see the actual drop. But by his body language(head dropped straight down)I knew he scratched!

As I got up, I saw he put his hand in the pocket to pull the ball out and I (admittedly) figured he gave me the game,,,, BIH on a 9! As I was rolling the other balls down table, he quickly said to me "what are you doin"? I looked at him completely shocked, I said you wanted me to shoot that?? He says, "YEAH, I'm not giving you a free 9 ball"

So, I was shocked to say the least! Here we are, a couple of good friends who in the past have gambled with each other for short money where we wouldn't let each other shoot an easy 9, never mind BIH 9!

But what really got to me,,,, as I was racking the balls for the next game,,, he mumbling loud enough for me to here very clear,,, what do you think,,, I'm giving free 9s away! I turned and looked at him, and said really!!!!

I proceeded to B & R the next 2 racks, and safe him on the 3rd for BIH! Ran that out and set was over! I NEVER shook his hand! We had some words, and I told him dude, don't talk to me ever again!

We see each other all the time, but I completely ignore him. By the way, it was 20 dollars weekly tournament!

I've been very lucky in my life, I had bone cancer and have (at this time) been able to beat it! I had to sacrifice my right arm mobility(it's not bad, but I will never throw a ball or play the drums like I used too), but I promised myself and God that if he gives me another chance, I will be true to word and keep the people I like close and those I don't far away!

I even see this kind of poor sportsmanship sometimes when I watch the pros on YouTube. Loser reluctantly engages in a half assed handshake, without eye contact. Sulks back to his chair. The sort of conduct my dad would have smacked me on the head for when I was a kid.

It's amateur, disrespectful, and I'm sure harmful to the game.

I agree. (Would have got me smacked too)

Be professional.

Oscar Dominguez impresses me by looking his opponent in the eye and shaking hands with no anger or frustration showing after a loss.

I admit I try to do likewise and feel better about myself when I control my emotions after a loss.
