possible scam on a scruggs

what I can't understand is with all of this guys feedbacks, how the hell did someone get his information and was able to get posting on his auction site?
do you think they hacked it or do you think he volutary gave up his information as requested by someone ?

If you notice, these ebay postings are for 1 day only.
That has to date indicated that someone had an unsuspecting users account when the real user responded to some e-bay scam e-mail about their account is in jeopardy of being closed unless they respond. When you respond, they take over your account.
Most of the time, when the password or anything changes, ebay contacts the original e-mail account with a real notification that something has changed. The member then responds back that they did not change anything and the auction is shut down.
The predators have been preying on all users and gambling that they can scam at least one person during the 24 hours. They even try to negotiate a less than normal cost for a real collectable which some ebay members have been victimized when they ask the seller a question.
I have not been caught but have received many of the initial security e-mail scams and forwarded back to ebay scam security center.
This may be only one avenue they are exploring and more will come up as the ebay administrators find similar trends.

I just received an email from the seller and he sent me pictures of the cue( thats what I requested from his auction site on ebay) and the only way he could have done it if he was selling the cue it's his email address I checked where it was coming from and it was his and checked ebay to confirm it also and it all checks out , so I don't know now!

What scares me is that the item number now comes up as invalid and that normally happens when ebay administration pulls an item because there is a problem.
When the seller pulls an item, it is still available to be viewed much like this one:

If you elect to proceed with the purchase, why not use the escrow service at Proficient:

For $50.00 it would be at least peace of mind and a bit of security.

It's still possible that it is/was a scam. A recent auction for a szamboti included some javascript that allowed the sneaky scammer to redirect the "ask seller a question" link to an outside domain where he had an exact duplicate of the eBay question page (complete with eBay's trust certificate logo). The only chink in the armor was that he didn't mask the url/address (which is EASY to do). You were not asked if you wanted to leave the site (script tricks). For all those reasons, and the obvious ones that shouldn't need to be stated, do not persue high dollar deals outside of the eBay system with unknown sellers. If they were/are really legit, they would happily list a private auction for you on eBay and afford you the buyer protection that you are given (little that it is).justabrake said:

if you will notice these almost always come from the UK. They don't try to control it and nether does e-bay. After you get ripped off, e-bay will do nothing and nether will the FBI. I got ripped off for $2500. for a bridgeport mill and you wouldn't know it from an e-bay e mail. I reported it and gave them plenty of info to help catch them and got nothing in the way of help. I figure there is a boiler room of these skumbags over there doing this. since then I have gotten two of them offering me the same item and the auction wasn't even over yet. Stay away from anything that does not go through pay pal on e-bay. butterflycues.

I erased it , but I asked another bidder about it that won one of my auctions a couple of weeks ago( he was bidding on it) so maybe he'll remember , but the email that the pictures came to me after asking a question was from ( cbsbuzz@yahoo.com ) I ran that through ebay and he wasn't the seller of the cue so how did his email come up with him as the seller ?
and the pictures that I received came from that email cbsbuzz@yahoo.com this is a little confusing
I had other scams from ebay but this one is more confusing then the others because how i asked the question to the seller and he answers the question from another sellers email from ebay , so how do you figure it , did this guy get 2 accounts of information and switched email and ID

I almost got ripped off a couple weeks ago on a Scruggs cue. The seller said his bank wouldn't take paypal any longer, and for me to wire him the money and we could go through ebay's Square Trade...so I could feel safe... even though the listing said he took paypal. As soon as he said "wire me the money" I thought it was a ripoff, but I told him I wasn't secure with Square Trade and offered to go through Proficient escrow...he said no, go through escrow.com, make a paypal payment to them, and they would wire him the money. I said OK, but I needed his name, address and phone number. He said he would check with his bank and get back to me the next day. In the meantime, ebay cancelled the listing, told me not to consumate the deal, and if I had made any kind of payment to try to recover it asap. Needless to say, I never heard from him again. Seller had his identity stolen, using the name of "opajean". Close call, but thanks to all the information exchanged on this forum about ebay ripoffs, as soon as he wanted the money wired, I pretty much knew what was going on.
