I love decorative rings on a cue. They can turn an ordinary cue into an exceptional cue. They can make a merry widow look elegant, or just elevate a fancier cue.

As an example I love the simple but elegant ring in the top Treadway in the picof the four Treadways .

Or the simple brass banding on the Lambros. Lambros did these awesome rings with Titlist colored veneers but I cannot find the pic of the cue again.

I have always loved Judds simple metal rings, they were so unique.

Kikels checkerboard rings really fit his cue well in his anniversary cue as well

This is my favorite design in two different styles.

The Pau Lau just looks fabulous under a pool table's lights.

I did not want identical rings so Bob's rendition uses ivory.

Bob's cue also has an ivory butt cap whereas the EP cue doesn't

I would never buy a custom cue with fancy ring work, unless the cue maker supplied me with some additional matching collar rings. You never know when you may need a new shaft and some of the ring work is so fancy you can never get it duplicated.

I have never ordered a custom cue with fancy ring work. I like simple. I get black collars with a single silver ring. Any cue maker in the world can duplicate it.

I play with all my cues and consider them "tools". I don't own any "art work".

Maybe it is just me, but I've played pool for over 50 years and worked in a pool hall and never even considered buying a "fancy" cue. I can afford them, but they don't play any better than a "simple" one.

Buy what you like and can afford and what makes you happy.

I'm happy with a simple cue that plays well.

Rings, inlays, points, veneers, etc, are really only for adornment.

The design, or look, of any pool cue, truly only matters to its owner.

True, but I personally look at cues as both a tool and functional art. I love pool cues, and can spend hours just looking at different ones. I am not a fan of super super fancy cues, but I believe rings really elevate the look of cue and love seeing new ideas and designs.
