Some time ago there was a poster put up for sale on A-Z Billiards (not sure what forum). It showed a one legged player in tuxedo sitting on the table. An artificial leg was detached from him next to the table and the poster had the caption " One foot on the floor".
Does anyone have one of these posters they want to sell, or does anyone know where a new one can be purchased?
Many thanks.
Speedi.

I will check

Hi Speedi - Believe it or not, the gentleman in the poster was a poolhall owner in my area, his partner still runs the place. I will stop by there the next chance I get as well as double checking with my poolhall. I know the photographer's name is printed on the bottom of the poster along with his phone number. Stay tuned...

No luck yet...

Well, I asked the owner of my local hall about the poster and he said a couple of years ago he couldn't give them away!! He doesn't have anymore laying around :(. I will be in the area of the other ph tomorrow so I will stop in and ask his old partner. Stay tuned, I will post findings on Thurs.

Disappointing News

Well everyone, I went right to the source yesterday and foound out we are out of luck. No more posters to be had from my potential two spots and I found out about another sad fact. The photographer never found the negative from this, so reproducing the poster would be tough, unless it was scanned. I heard that makes a grainy picture. Sorry about the news!

Well if the initial poster into the scan is good enough, with the quality of scanners nowadays, it should look just like the original, and if someone is talented enough, they could use Photoshop to update the poster to make it look like it was taken with a modern camera. I do have one friend who is a graphic designer by occupation, I could try and see what he could do if I get a good enough scan of it. Dont know what legal rights I'd have to get if it turns out good enough to distribute though...

Be Careful.......You Have No Legal Rights To Reproduce

As long as you do something purely for your self and never offer any reproduction copies for sale, then you're probably okay.

BUT...if you market or sell any of these posters that you thought you could update or reproduce, then you had better hope the original publisher never finds out. You will not have a legal leg to stand on if you ever had to defend yourself in an action.

I'm not a lawyer but one of my daughters composes music for commerical advertisements and she's researched then legal aspects of original productions and proprietary rights. What it basically comes down to is stealing unless you have "prior" written permission from the publisher, or their heirs or estate.

Just some food for thought.

There are several people that would like a copy. I myself subscribed to this thread in the hopes that someone would find a source. I saw this poster a while back, but it was in an auction for 10 different vintage posters and I only wanted that one.

Scanning a copy and selling them without the original artist's permission would be copyright infringement. However, the original artist has said he no longer has the negatives. Maybe an arrangement could be made with him. With today's technologies (as was said), a scan could be almost identical. I honestly wouldn't even need it "modernized".

If a satisfactory, legal source for a copy could be obtained, I would definitely be interested.

I spoke with Lou, the original photographer a couple times in the last week. He does have a few of these left to sell, I believe five or so. He would sell them for $50 each plus shipping if anyone is interested. original photo was taken in Downingtown PA, circa 1990.

Picture can be found here

Lou's contact info is listed below, I am only posting this as a courtesy to him as he doesn't have an AZ billiards account at this time.

He can accept paypal but you'd have to contact him to get that info.
