I am curious about the details of the images at the bottom of the poster and if it were to my propensity, I would attempt to make another poster for my pool room.

The link you sent was very nice and probably something that I could incorporate into a poster. I guess, since I can typeset fairly well, I thought I would design a poster that might give up and coming players an idea of what we see when we hit the cue ball.

Another perspective that I would like to illustrate is how the edge (rounded part) of the tip touches the cue ball once you get away from the center of the cue ball. If you have any links to illustrations that show that visual I would appreciate it.

I don't want to make the image too complicated but I wanted to make it functional and useful for those that might follow.

If there are others who would like to make contributions to the design of a poster that would help others to play better pool, including you, please let me know either in this thread or via PM.

If anyone has any suggestions for the poster, please share them. I like the way your link talks about the different types of references of English and can see incorporating them into a diagram.


If I thought it would sell and make a profit, I would strongly consider giving the profits to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Hi Joey,

If you intend to sell it, a nicely racked female body with the cue ball diagrams strategically placed by photoshop might be the way to go.

I may start another thread, asking for suggestions for a poster design that would help the beginning players to understand the places on a cue ball that one might choose to contact with the tip.

Maybe multiple diagrams showing different aspects like the one rhale linked from Dr. Dave's website as well as others. It would be a rather large poster, I'm guessing similar in size to the View of a Cue, which is 22" x 28".

I will most likely add the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT to the bottom of the poster, and if I decide to not sell them, perhaps those who ask for the download will be willing to make a donation to the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT. I'm kind of up in the air on the idea of selling the posters but if I did sell them I'm not sure if I would sell them direct or through a wholesaler.

I'm curious as to what you readers have to say about selling a poster versus asking for a donation if you download the electronic file for the printing of the poster. The donation in lieu of actual payment would only be on a person's honor and no way to track that I know of. The other thing I was thinking about is that Pool Rooms would be more interested in a nice frame than they would just the poster. I could have one of my factories print the posters on an as needed basis and ship them anywhere in the world. They might even be able to provide frames for the posters.

I think for now, since this is a labor of love, I will just concentrate on the design aspect but I'm open to all suggestions and ideas for consideration.

The Shot is a very cool shot indeed however, I am thinking about a poster that will help people play better pool by giving them an idea of where they can hit the cue ball and make it do different things. Telling someone doesn't always work. Some of us are visual people and need the images to "get it".

I have already been working on a couple of layouts and am not sure I have it the way I want it.

I have been thinking that to scale is the way to go but I'm not even sure about that. Anyway, I have a couple of balls drawn to detail with cue tips applied showing the miscue area.

Still wondering if I should rely on the honor and generosity of the people who make the downloads or to sell them outright. I don't really have a lot of time to sell the posters and they might not even sell at all. My target audience is probably the public pool rooms and maybe a few fat cats that have their own personal pool room.

The images I have created so far are vector images so I can size them any way that I choose. I'm not capable at the moment of drawing three dimensional objects like a cue ball, showing where a tip meets the miscue limit line. I can draw 2 dimensional objects and set type but I don't have any 3 D experience.

Anyway, I appreciate the ideas.

Again, keep in mind that I am doing this primarily to give back to the pool community, first and possibly help the Wounded Warrior's Project secondly. I don't want to make this a full time business or even a part-time business. It's really just a labor of love.
