PP 9-Ball Tournament in Hagerstown-Update

Hey There!

I don't remember the last time we had that much fun at an event, we did have a fabulous AZ turnout this weekend. Timberly it was awesome to meet you outside of the bathroom line in Valley Forge - and as for this weekend laughs and laughs, my hubby still has a tummy ache from laughing so much!
As Nick said - thanks Landshark again for the cue - it was great to have the support, and the raffle was a big success.
Nick - I think in response to the qualifier question - wasn't the prize both a paid membership to the WPBA and a $500 entry into that event? Hopefully I'm not speaking out of line!
SKESS - I didn't realize you were one of our players until today on this post, that's awesome!
This was my first time watching Putnam play - what a great player - and one heck of a nice guy and a great sense of humor! Can't wait to see him again, and JAM I think it would be great if he decides to start posting.

Ok guys...I did nothing but marry the guy that donated the cue...so no thanks should be directed to me. :(

...This was my first time meeting Pam and all I can say is WOW. Her maturity and level of play at the mere age of 17 is astounding! You can bet Mr. West' chicken farm ( :D ) on the fact that she will go far in the pool world if she desires to do so....

I enjoyed hanging out on the rail with you, too, Timberly. There were quite a few GREAT matches to see, and the hours went by like minutes for me. I was impressed with Don Mulholland and his son who own a pool room in Johnson, PA, both very topnotch players.

Here's a pic I snapped of Pam Treadway and Josh Brothers after she won the Ladies tournament on Sunday evening. You can actually still see the blue chalk on her fingers after her great performance in the finals! :p

...It's no secret that when Keith is in da house there's gonna be plenty of laughs but I gotta tell ya, Pooky, and Ryan McCreesh are quite the "entertainers" also!...

Just wanted to add this picture of Second-Place Finisher Ryan "Genie Man" McCreesh and Keith dancing in the parking lot of Hagerstown Billiards between matches, doing The Hustle! (LOL) :p

I guess this is what I was trying to ask you on Saturday...this is how it was explained to me, by a TD of another regional tour that I played in. I must buy their tour card to become a tour member....which Pam did to play in your events. BUT...if I won the Q'er, in order to get the spot...I also needed to be an amateur member of the WPBA. I could not get the spot unless I was...I could win the tourney (yeah right...LMAO!) but I needed that WPBA membership to be eligible for the q spot. They even sell the WPBA memberships at the WPBA regional tours. So either Pam needs to have that membership OR I was ripped off some chump change. I hope, if Pam doesn't have that membership, that it is the latter.

Like I said this was the way it was explained to me and a few of the girls that I spoke with on Sunday said the same thing.

Whoa, wait a sec! If Pam wasn't already a member of the WPBA, she is ineligible to win the Qualifier.

And Kelly Oyama told me that Planet Pool is not a WPBA sanctioned tour.

So I am correct, if Pam wasn't already a WPBA member (and I don't know if she is or isn't...I only bring it up because Nick said that was only her 3rd major event and her first q'er) then she is not eligible for the spot...thus the spot would go to the next eligible person??

How do we find out if Pam is eligible? If she is not then who actually "won" the spot? I am curious to know.

LS77, I've got her phone number and may call her and inquire about her status relating to the WPBA organization, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why the other two ladies who competed on the Planet-Pool 9-Ball Tour and won qualifiers were, in fact, allowed to play in the WPBA-sanctioned events.

One player that comes to mind is Miyuki Sakai of Japan. Last June, the first place Miyuki went as soon as she hopped off the plane from her home country of Japan was The Playing Field in Richmond, Virginia, to attend a Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour qualifier for the WPBA-sanctioned Cuetech tournament which occurred last year in Florida, the same one as Pam Treadway won last night. Miyuki at that time was a member of the Japanese Billiard Council (JBC), I think.

Eurowest is going to be very happy that they made an offer to sponsor Pam Treadway. There is no doubt in my mind that she is going to be a hit in any venue she hangs her cue, and the young lady is still getting stronger every single day. She told me that she noticed that in the last 2 months, her game just took off, and she's knows it. She possesses strong self-confidence and takes her game very seriously. The guys kind of think she's easy on the eyes, too! ;)

I'm not going to elaborate on that, but I do know the answer. Sueyen was already called for a spot so she is not eligible and I don't know what the status is of the 3rd and 4th placed women.

The other thing that is curious is that your your husband donated a cue that was raffled off by Plenat Pool to pay for the Qualifier.

According to WPBA standards for sanctioned Regional Tours, the Qualifier has to be paid 60 days in advance of the event it's for. Last weekend's date would not cover the Florida event of 60 days out. So why was the cue raffled for the Q?

OK, I did some investigation on AZ and found that Miyuki Sakai has participated in SEVERAL WPBA regional tours PRIOR to her PP win, thus most likely she was already a WPBA member in good standing. Nick also noted Amanda Pasko won a PP q'er last year...I notice that she has also participated in at least one WPBA regional tour event, thus she may have had membership too. Please understand, I am not trying to start anything here. I just want to know who won the spot. Often times the winner of a tourney does not "win" the spot. If Pam is a WPBA memeber in good standing, then she not only won the tourney, but she won the spot also.

I can not answer that as it has nothing to do with me. I actually learned about the whole thing on the message boards, LOL. I am asking the q'er question as a WPBA fan and really bad pool player only. :p

Even when the tournament ended on Saturday night, folks hung around to watch the festivities.

Young Gun Brandon Shuff of Virginia matched up EVEN with a young player from Philadelphia, 10 ahead. It didn't take long, and Brandon snapped it off.

Keith is giving his horse a warm-up massage before the set with Brandon. He and Mike Davis engaged in a little friendly sweat bet on the rail. Unfortunately for Keith, his horse didn't win! :p

The next morning, Keith ended up having to play this cutie pie at 10:30 a.m. in the losers' bracket, not a good hour to play pool for my camp. The match went hill-hill, with Keith coming out on top. The kid can play! :)

I also had my best showing so far, just getting into the money! I think I played every damned match right in front of the rail! I guess I'm weathered now to playing in front of a crowd! It takes a lot of focus to put the crowd out of your mind after a bad shot, but it sure is nice to have witnesses to some good shots! Captain JR, I didn't mention it, but I'm the one who played you Sat. night going hill-hill! It went my way that time, but one shot and the game would have been yours! Anyway, you're a gentleman and hope to see you at other PP events.

Beetle, I thought you looked familiar. I should have said something. My memory is just so bad. My doctor has me taking B12 to try to help it, but it doesn't seem to be working. Sometimes I wonder how I can remember how to play pool. LOL Maybe sometime I don't. We had a good match and you got me in the end.

During our match I had a little bit of a memorable moment. You might remember the shot, but I don't think you could hear what made it memorable for me. I already mentioned my bad memory so I'm probably going to get some of the ball numbers incorrect, but I can give the general idea. in the picture below. I think you had left me with this shot on the upper end of the table (or was it after the break, gees my memory) I knew because of the ball near the corner possibly being a helper that making the ball wasn't going to be that difficult. The difficult part was going to be keeping the cue ball on the table after the jump. After eyeing up the shot I went back to get my jump stick, I looked up at the crowd and said, "is there such a thing as a finesse jump shot?" Shawn said 'Yes there is". I came back to the table, jacked up a little more than normal, really loosened up my grip and popped the cue right up and down to make the shot. The cue didn't do much bouncing around at all. You complimented the shot and when I got back to get my shooting stick Shawn said, "I guess you've got the shot". It was a pretty good memorable moment for me to get a compliment like that from Shawn. Maybe I'll be able to remember is longer by writing it down here.

My memory is not great either, especially in tense situations. I was doing everything I could to try and stay focussed on my shots, pretending there weren't dozens of people just a few feet away, focussed on me! Consequently, for our match, and the one right before (which also went hill-hill) I am in a daze and only remember the last couple shots! I'll hopefully calm down and relax after a few more events! You should be proud to have received a compliment from Shawn Putnam. He's a terrific player who, like so many of the elite, make it look so easy!
