I have read a few places that Mike Sigel is trying to start a new leauge called PPA, but the website seems to be under construction and no information.

I would like to get in a different league than the APA. APA team leagues the players on a team get better and then the team hits the 23 point rule. I am a 7 in 8-ball and 9-9Ball, so I never get to play. What is the point of a league if you can't play?

Don't know if you see the same ad I do, but the USAPL has a banner ad on your post and is a great league. Or BCAPL if USAPL is not available.

There is no team point limit for skill but after you reach the max you get point deducted from your score.

So say you have a 300 max with 3 players, that is 3 B+ or A- players shooting in one night. The rankings go from 30-125. You play 3 people with a ranking of 320. You can do that but at the end of the night when you count total points you need to deduct some from your score for going over 300.

Plus the ranking is a lot more granular you don't have two 7s where one is an A and the other is a B playing each other, you would have a 90 playing a 120 or 125.

I have experienced the same problem. The USAPL is the best answer to accommodate players of all skill levels. Each player receives a rating from 30-125 and they race to their rating each match. I am a higher level amateur player and my rating is 125. However, I can still play and have a good time and we are not forced to fill the rest of the team with beginners. It is great! Sigel has nothing to do with the league now, other than as a figurehead. The league is the GPPA, not PPA. It is operating in a few states, and just had their first national playoffs, paying $10,000 to the winning team from Clearwater FL. Google Global Pool Players Association International and you will find the site and the information. Mike Kennedy, who posts here as acedonkeyace, is a rep for the league where I live in FL. PM him and he can tell you more about the league.

Thanks for all the replies. I will check into the USAPL. Not sure if it is available in Austin area, but I will call and check. Do they have a website?

Tom,

How about BCAPL, ACS or TAP? You obviouly can play a bit and want new challenges. Can't believe any of the three league systems I mentioned are not available in Austin. Does your APA operator offer a Masters league? No handicap there. Have you checked to see if any of the pool rooms in Austin offer in-house leagues? Best of luck. Hope you find something fun!

Me, i like the APA format (races, I know they're short but I like to play my set not just one game and wait). But I like the rules from the BCA (not the points mind you but rules of play). And i don'y like playing in bars on bar box tables. I like 9' tables:grin-square:.

I miss that:frown:...

I would check to see if there is a TAP League in your area.

Come in as a handicap 5 or 6 and you'll be fine.
