Practice practice practice

I feel a story coming on, could be the beer (strictly medicinal 😉).
The Hat out of Seattle/Tacoma had the sweetest hand action. He ran with the Big Boys, he would play Danny with the 8 on the 9 foot Gold Crown at The White Spot. After the bi-yearly bar table tournament. The only time he won was when they played straight up.
Where was I? Oh yeah, Granny's in Federal Way, had a $3 Saturday night tournament. 5 tables, I think 😉 and paid money to high female. Single game of 8 ball double elimination. It got to the point that first place paid over $100. I won it and remember it as $112. The next Saturday, The Hat was there.🤷

I wrote myself some guidelines for practice
a. Learn one thing at a time.
b. Understand what your goal is & if necessary, break that goal into segments.
c. If the goal is complicated, learn each step of the goal, before going forward.
d. Setup the goal's subject matter, the same way each time.
. Practice , practice, practice, until you own it.

I have taken these steps & used them to build an outline, so to make each small part of the subject matter, a small goal in itself.

Howdy;

I've subscribed to the axiom that the Devil is in the details ...

I n ver lose to Freebird ! 😉 That's what the youngster told me as he was racking for the third consecutive time and Freebird came on .
It was early Saturday and I was practicing. The youngster wanted to challenge me, with 5 other tables available. I tried to be polite by saying, "I am a money player." Oops, he puffed up and declared, " I'm a money player too." Ok cool. $5 a game.
So I broke and ran, with the declaration at pay time, "I never lose to Freebird either..🤷 Anyway he got a cheap lesson.
Ok Freebird is Wilbur's new name.

This resembles my experience with lessons from Backward Jan. As full week on the basic steps. It was 6 weeks before I got to strategy. Heck going in I thought I was ready for one pocket strategy.🤷

Gunther in Tacoma was my first paid lessons. After about $10 he said, "we don't have to play for a dollar." I replied, "oh yes we do. I pay for lessons." And what a bargain. He took me to the 3 ball game with the vacuum cleaner sales guys. At least 8 handed. The pot got to +100 easily at $1 a toss. 3's were usually tied. My duce for $128 was tied by the guy that had not made a point all day!🤷

In The Beginning: The address. If you don't have the address...... where are you going.
I hold my cue at the balance point with rear hand. I use shaft as a measuring device for the foundation.

The Stance at address is square with the chin and belly button on the line I want the ball to follow. Finding the position is worth a week 🤔🤪

The precision starts with the precise location of the foundation.🤷

my foundation work, no wait, my therapy.

"You load 16 tons and what do you get?"
Well when I was 13 and we spent Saturday cutting and hauling fire wood.......for each pick-up load, I could have a beer with the men. My father ran the chain saw and I and usually one other would load the truck. At offload grab a beer and go back for another. 4 loads on Saturday was normal. Then I had one week to split and stack to be ready for Saturday!.

I walked into the biker bar. Sounds like a joke opener. Looked around and saw 2 pool tables unoccupied, with the bar full. So I announce myself with a question. "Anybody in here play pool worth a F***?? No response, so about face and on to the next.
I never found a hole in the wall locals only bar with a pool table that didn't know Cole. (All on the west coast.😉)

My travel gear.🤷

Weight Training: The concrete work for the physical therapy. The head spot foot spot kiss is my weight work on the table. Getting the hit and frozen being the target. Fingers only is the therapeutic program. A real eye opener.🤷

Equipment update. Cut the corners off the defective/worn out 3 ball template. Makes the break pad. I have transition from the bandana on the cue to a skirt. The bandana joke related to people putting bandanas on the Dog. The cold draft up the skirt is my favorite excuse.🤷
The skirt is a recycle pocket from a pair of shorts that made the rag bag. Never know.... might even wear it in public.

could you explain what the cloth on the cue is for?
Similar to the pool glove. Started with the finger from a glove, as shooting with either hand works putting the glove on the cue.
The skirt allows for me to pinch or pleat the cloth below the cue giving me the security of a loop bridge without the finger interrupted sight line. The skirt can also be a smooth pad between the shaft and rail allow me to lay and slide the shaft on the rail with no damage.

We must play the table... The table is life... Thank you for your practice words... Guy . This is good and this is bad the old man observed many years this snooker game and with his intelligence is passing all on... All my life we have had the same things here with our pocket games and we've had the old man to teach us... This is the time that we are all seaking extra knowledge, The best to all... Guy

Water Buffalo is definitely high performance. Kind of like driving a high performance car.
Competition:
Will be interesting to see when I take it to competition. I always like the mystery aspect of competition. Not knowing if I am going to show up. But knowing if I make it to the finals I am at my best.

I can enjoy that match, win or loose. Knowing if they beat me they played well.

The Joy of Missing:
Is easiest to find in practice. In competition it’s more accepting and analysis without emotion,( other than the Efrenesque head scratching.)
I see a lot of smiles from simple misses...
